I ask my girls and bit to take it in turns to put the rubbish out in the holdays. It is collected at 7.30 am. The girls consider that the best time to do this is the night before. The boy considers 7.30 is the best time as if they don't collect it, it would have been a waste of time putting it out the night before when you have been doing something else. Any thoughts forum men?

I don't dare put my rubbish out the night before; otherwise the foxes have a fieldday and the mess stretches from end to end of the road - about a mile and a half. Assuming that you don't have that problem and for the time being I think putting the rubbish out at night is the best idea; doesn't your son have problems getting out of bed at any time before 11.30am? It would be all too easy to miss the 7.30am collection.
That said, the girls will, eventually, draw in the foxes and rats (perhaps even badgers) so perhaps the girls will like a bit of wildlife (Neill / JR - that is a single word, please note

)

As an OB I can safely refer you to Ecclesiasticus Chap 42, verse 9 et seq. Even then daughters spelt trouble with a capital T. There is too much to quote fully but verse 13 and 14
For from garments cometh a moth,
And from a woman cometh a woman's wickedness.
Better is the wickedness of a man than a pleasant dealing woman,.....
Dons armour and flees from the wrath of womankind
(I was trying to answer another post to include what a Franciscan monk friend described as "porn in the bible", also from Ecclesiasticus and came across this little "gem" by accident)

Many (most) places in Britain now have big plastic bins which are lifted onto the back of the truck so the poor chaps don't have to do any lifting, never mind the poor householders (of all ages) who have to drag them out to the kerb. They don't have them in Chesham, in the same Council area but many streets of Victorian terraces with garden access only through the house.
Which means that the rubbish does not get scattered by foxes, unless you still have to use black bags.
What does this have to do with TV, media and newspapers?
Oh yes:

You seesejintenej that is where you are such a 'man' .Girls will sort and pack the rubbish two days in advance. The recyclables will be uninteresting to the foxes and so an be put out the night before. The biodegradable is in a separate fox proof container and so can be put out the night before. Men just don't see the point of doing anything until the last minute. See- Prep, putting rubbish out, putting washing in basket, ironing shirt when going out only done 2 minutes before event, buying presents 2 minutes bfore event and so on.

Dinah, please be aware that it is I (whose masculinity you confirm as if my wife can't) who sorts the recyclables every single day into their receptacles and puts everything out as soon as it is safe to do so. The local council receptacles are far from fox proof - we are required to use biodegradable thin plastic bags and the foxes have eaten through the thick black plastic of the bin I used to put the non-recyclables in (but that could have been the badgers).. I have had plenty of midnight verbals from the foxes themselves because I keep the interesting stuff behind 1" thick doors which the foxes haven't yet been able to break through.
Our local foxes like to play football with clean empty jars, bottles etc. so even putting out recyclables early is not neighbourly; I am aware that certain boroughs even fine you if you put your rubbish out early.
As for presents I have already bought all the birthday cards to be used before November, even some presents for birthdays and Christmas (next, that is); thank you for the reminder.

Our black, plastic bags, are collected at about 6.30 am. Friday
Recycleables Mondays, about 10.30am
Although we have a Vixen and her cubs wandering about and the cubs playing in the road, they never sem to attack the bags.
In our case, and with many others, all organic matter goes into our big "Compost Heap" which is at the back of the house and inaccessible to foxes.
Madam Fox, and her brood, sometimes take a short cut, with noncholant attitude, across the front lawns, even if we are present !
I love 'em !

BLACK PLASTIC BAGS???????
You should all move to South Cambridgeshire - We now have 3 wheeled bins (one for rubbish, one for composting stuff and the third for paper, metals and other recycling stuff!!!!) .
As to children, I skipped them (dont ask!!!) and am just getting used to being a Grand Father - I'm way too young!!!!

Have you any idea about how much it costs the Council Tax Payers (Gor Bless 'em !) to convert the usual wagons to accept wheelie bins, and to deposit their contents into the maw of the truck ------- No ?
I did ------ and it was decided to stick with the black plastic bags, also the "Elderly and Confused" did not want the trouble of lugging the bins from the back or side of their premises to the pavement, and the return to the original place.
Our neighbour, Poole Borough, has three bins per household.
You may disagree, but please delay rude comment until 7th March, when I shall return from the Arctic Circle.
(Best place for him !!)

A picture would be brilliant!

Thanks Neill - but around here the 'change' also happened at just the time when the council had to replace the fleet of lorries anyway - OR so they said!!!!
The elderly, infirm etc are helped by council men who put the bins out for them - wonder how much that costs??

Welcome to the great eco-friendly recycling push - my employer went down this line about 2 years ago (or it may be longer!) - the result is lots more cardboard/plastic bins cluttering everywhere up and a proliferation of multi-coloured notices telling us what goes in which bin!!! Mind you, I'm not sure that the people emptying the bins actually keep it all separate - for al we know they just empty all the bins into a single large bin (opppsss being cynical, sorry!!!)

I am sure you have been to a recycling centre (I go to Slyfield near Guildford), and the people there are very strict about what goes into which skip.
