That's a great idea - anyone know whether CH collect the vouchers? There's also the Sainsburys equipment vouchers too....

I had a whole load of both lots of vouchers but no-one semed to be able to say whether they were being collected or not. I ended up giving them to my brother for their primary school. I suppose I should have offered to collect them myself really!

RM computers? I remember when the computer network was RM - not the most reliable or was that just the way it was run?

The official RM figures for quality and reliability are industry leading (lowest Dead-On-Arrival rate of any PC manufacturer) but I couldn't say which was the case at CH!

I work for the Institute of Education, and all our students are now trained on using whiteboards ... it is definitely the future of education. At least in this instance, CH is keeping up with the C21st.

Whiteboards are excellent but they are a teaching 'aid'. Anyone read the latest inspection reports? If someone can't actually teach, I am not convinced that one of these gizmos is going to magically solve the issue.

CH should be getting their house in order first before sticking their hand in the proverbial and controversial candy jar. I'm with Ben on this one.

Ink pellets made by screwing up a small piece of paper and soaking in the ink-well, before being despatched at speed with the aid of a twelve inch ruler when teachers back was turned ! (Please note: 12 INCH RULER, not a 'so-may millimeters' ruler !)

Incidently ! -- Can you call whatever they are 'White-Boards these days ? Shouldn't it be an IC 1 Board, or a Non-Ethnic board ????

A quick update on this for those who are interested.....

I sent a brief e-mail to the Partnership office, outlining these ideas. It seems that they will be brought to the attention of the new Partnership Director (who will be in place in October) so I guess we'll see what can be done then.

Actually, to be fair, the letter did contain advance notice of the calls, but then the onus was on US to opt out if we didn't want to receive one.

The bloke who called me had just left C.H. - he mentioned that a group of them were there for a couple of weeks after the end of term, and as they were only calling during the evenings he was spending the rest of the time doing pretty much what he wanted. He seemed quite happy about it all, although I see why people have misgivings about the use of cheap labour for this.

wow, where to start...

no offence JT, but i'm with Si and Matt on the RM issue. when CH had them, they were [insert crude anglo-saxon word here]. but to avoid litigation, i'm sure RM is at the forefront of computer networking in the 21st century...

indeed, if you cannot teach, two-grand whiteboards won't help. when i was at CH a few years ago, many of the old-school teachers couldn't even cope with OHPs. and you know what? it didn't affect the quality of their teaching one bit.
i think there needs to be a lot more justification to spend 2,500 per classroom than "they are really shiny bits of kit".

if you feel inclined to help out at CH, do not give them a carte-blanche, you know and I know that they will p1ss it away. either ring-fence your donation for very specific use (e.g. "2X Oxford English Dictionary only"), and in writing, or buy the equipment yourself and have it delivered to the school office rather than to your front door.

to add to the points made, I'm sure interactive whiteboards can be very effective when used effectively, but the few I know of in CH are, in general very, very underused - perhaps we need the experts to demonstrate at CH (no insult intended!)
