I think we can all see, why I left this Topic some time ago !
Welcome to the unofficial Christ's Hospital Forum - for discussing everything CH/Old Blue related. All pupils, parents, families, staff, Old Blues and anyone else related to CH are welcome to browse the boards, register and contribute.

Your joking notion of the sexual timetable is somewhat humorous, although I think the actual as opposed to sarcastic solution is obvious. Some teachers currently at the school go looking for such things. I am not saying to turn a blind eye to it, but I recall being told to put my feet up on the ground when I was sitting with a boy on the sofa. I think expulsion is extreme. I think suspension is far more effective. Expelling someone for having sexual intercourse and thus disrupting their education, is ludicrous.Ajarn Philip wrote:Spartacist is a name that conjures up images of a revolting slave (if you see what I mean) or a member of an underground left wing movement in Germany many years ago. Your choice of this name may be for completely different reasons.
Anyway, without wanting to sound or to be patronising, but probably likely to be accused of both, this strikes me as a case of a young man recently starting law studies and getting a bit carried away with the whole thing.
You do? What kind of mandate do you have?I speak on behalf of the current blues that reaped the benefit of CH under Dr Southern
Much of this is trivial, and has been acknowledged as such (which begs the question 'why bother?'), but the sex issue is certainly not.
Kicking your child out of the house is hardly comparable to allowing him/her to be suspended or expelled from school. Trying to make the one sound like the other may be an indication of how good a lawyer you will one day be, but it won't wash here.If you would seriously consider kicking your child out for having sex with their respective partner.... Well, say no more. I need not.
favouritethings said:So you agree that a laissez faire attitude is inappropriate, but think that the current rules are too strict? Then where do you draw the line? Mondays and Fridays only? Between the hours of 6-8 pm?I don't believe that kids should just be allowed to spread the seed all over the place at school. But I just think this suffocating attitude is way too far.
Sex may be legal if you are 16 or over, but it's not illegal to smoke either, or to walk on the grass. Most school rules don't cover legalities. I don't see the Court of Human Rights getting involved.
I can fully understand prospective and current parents having concerns over this particular issue, and I would suggest that recent Old Blues leave things well alone. If students are so unhappy with the current restrictive and inhumane regimethey will presumably ask their parents to remove them. That's when the 'powers that be' might take some interest.
and all of that above just meant that I don't believe children should live in fear. I think people need to be more open-minded with tem. Hard handed discipline is not always effective.favouritethings wrote:and yes, I am done with the sex thing too shane, clearly we won't see eye to eye with other individuals who (with no offence meant) are, should we say, maturer than us, then obviously take a completely different view.
Unfortunately, my mother takes the same view and I find that with regards to my younger brother, he will forever be stifled but I hope to god he just does what he wants to do, acts responsibly but doesn't live his teen years worried about this that and the other regarding trouble he might be in with parents and school.
i am currently at CH and while the email from vessey may say this from my friends throughout the seniors i have spoken to the UF etc are only allowed if the are in a band with a grecians, essentially making it for most people a grecians only event in terms of band, plus Mr Vessey also has promised less staff members there which i don't see happening as from my experience the new SMT, Vessey and Franklin seem to love trying to fine people breaking the rules and seem to go out of their way to find people doing this, fair enough if some1 is off their heads at the event then catch them punish them etc, but to go out of their way is extreme and what im afraid is actually happening. And in support of shane, he does have some form of a mandate as most current blues support his petition, and the only reason why it isn't coming from inside the school is as a result into the investigation into the Housey Peaceful revolution group, people are too afraid to speak out for fear of punishmentMrs C. wrote:Hot off the press
The Rock Concert will run ..... with a selection of bands drawn from the UF to Grecian year groups being auditioned .... over the next few weeks.
so you see, it`s not just for Grecians` bands!
Almost 7 years at CH hasn`t done much for your punctuation, has it Richard?02juddra wrote:i am currently at CH and while the email from vessey may say this from my friends throughout the seniors i have spoken to the UF etc are only allowed if the are in a band with a grecians, essentially making it for most people a grecians only event in terms of band, plus Mr Vessey also has promised less staff members there which i don't see happening as from my experience the new SMT, Vessey and Franklin seem to love trying to fine people breaking the rules and seem to go out of their way to find people doing this, fair enough if some1 is off their heads at the event then catch them punish them etc, but to go out of their way is extreme and what im afraid is actually happening. I agree with your sentiments, but there are older people on here who have studied English to a much higher level, whose posts are even less comprehensible.dinahcat wrote:Mrs C - I take my hat off to you.I lost the will to read 02juddra's post after two words. well im not taking english a-level, but i was touch typing so grammer and punctation kinda falls out the window, im also slightly dyslexic, and so my grammer and punication aren't going to be great, but i don't really think my ability to punctate should really matter on an online forum, as personally i feel its more important to read and digest some1 points before critising their grammer, fair enough if you disagree with my points, there only my opinion from my experiences and thus people may disagree, but just to give up and just write about my grammer seems kind of a cop-out as your not looking at my points and then debating them, which i though this forum was about clearly i was wrong as its just about critisng people's grammer. Furthermore Mrs Chandler while clearly it does mean that every1 should get a turn on their grecians, this is not always the case a talented instrumentalists may leave the school at GE after their GCSE, and thus won't get a chance. Furthermore while for adults with children will have different views, i have a younger sister, who at her age now -15 i wouldn't want to to be 'sexually active' and would discourage her from doing so, but once your over the age of constent and feel you are mature enough then you should be punished for doing what is a natural thing and all te new rules will cause is increased friction between the older years and the new SMT and the possible expulsion of talented individuals from the school. It seems pointless to me to punish 18 year olds the same as 12 years olds.dinahcat wrote:Mrs C - I take my hat off to you.I lost the will to read 02juddra's post after two words.
