ah, but what she means is that as her first two lessons are "study periods" she doesn't have to go to College/school - she can just have some more shut-eye. There is no intention to actually do any study in bed, I take it. Of course, I have never met her, but I used to teach students of that age so the terminology is familiar.

A bilingual translation:

In Teacher: Study period n., a time in which the student chooses what work to be getting on with independantly

In Student: Free period n., a time in which the student gets some extra sleep, watches Neighbours, catches up with friends etc., a nice little break from the strains of work

I had (not intentionally of course), a driving lesson during my study periods today.

As soon as I returned, however, I rushed diligently to the Chemistry labs to watch over the experiments needed for our A2 courswork. I could not bear to sit at house doing nothing. That would have been atrocious.

I once drove my saxaphone teacher to Horsham Station in a free period as she had to get up to London to play in the Phantom of the Opera!
