We had an interesting 'blizzard' yesterday......... 50 -60 mile winds, a Nor-Easter,.... and are left with 20-30" of snow, with huge drifts etc. Lots of trees down and many places with no power. I believe Washington DC (about 100 miles west) has >30" of snow.

It looks like so much fun - though a pain I am sure!
I hear a rumour that more snow/cold weather is expected here this week!

Just got back to Spain after a weekend in London.
Ryanair from Stanstead delayed due to snow and de-icing the plane.
Start of Americas Cup in Valencia delayed due to no wind today and storms predicted for tomorrow.
Variable weather continues.

Just for the record, last Sunday, 31st January, we discovered that it is not just British trains that get delayed by snow. We were in Florence and about to go to Rome, the trains were very late due to snow further north. We were booked on the 10.40 which never arrived, the 11.40 arrived some time after 12 noon, and the guard grudgingly agreed to allowing us on without charging us for changing trains!

Fingers crossed. A few spits here today, but nothing to speak of and nothing stayed. When I was driving home from work at 7.30 this evening the temperature said it was -0 (I never understand that!) but when I got home it was 1 - so it warmed up as I came 18 miles eastwards. I expect I will open the curtains in the morning to find a white world. Got to get to work early, too. AArrggh!

It was snowing ALL DAY yesterday in Kent, but fortunately it was too wet to lay. Had more snow again today, although its stopped again now and is looking very bright outside (but freezing!!) I'm beginning to panic about picking up the girls on Friday, I hate driving in the snow and we're forecast to get loads again

Just tell him that the metre (as in distance measurement) is the result of gross incompetence. The idea was that it would be a specific fraction of the distance from Paris to the North Pole but they got that distance WRONG!
Even the ancient Egyptians were more accurate in calculating the circumference of the world!
OTOH the Swiss do make pretty Cuckoo clocks

Oh, so that's where I got it wrong all these years

. I had always thought that Belgium was north , not south, of Germany.
