Some years ago my son gave me a desk agenda called forgotten English, with a different word for each day.
EG, Jan 24, CLOCK FACES
A favourite name for the small circles of ice formed upon a pool when it begins to freeze over. (Frances Taylor's Folk-Speech of South Lancashire, 1901)
The one for Katherine's Birthday says
Executrice
A female executioner. (Anglo-Norman)
Obviously someone not to be messed with.

Apparently my eyes which are grey/blue turn vivd green and the light makes them lok like I am shooting lasers out of them .... I first got told about my laser eyes when my step bro had his 18th - I am 10 yrs older than he.... and had 2 children.. the other step bro (8 yrs younger than me) brought one of his Navy friends...... anyhow, 4 lads had too much to drink, and took on this navy guy, got him on the floor and started kicking the c r a p out of him, when I finally got him to me and put him into recovery pos, they started to walk towards me - mother nature and maternal instinct cut in real fast, and apparently it took a mere 5 seconds for these guys to look at me and then run for it........
it's the only time I have ever shouted at my father - who just stood there in a daze...... "phone the ** ambulance and the police you ***** idot.."
it worked, the little toe rags were caught and the navy guy was let out to light duties the next day - he did however have a lots of bruises all over his body....
So - you know - there are now 2 of us in here!!!!!!!! lol

A churchy word today :
rogation
• noun [usu. as modifier] (in the Christian Church) a solemn supplication consisting of the litany of the saints chanted on the three days before Ascension Day: Rogation Week.
— origin late Middle English: from Latin rogatio(n-), from rogare ‘ask’.
I was vaguely aware that this was something to do with the church calendar, but didn't really know what it meant.

The second house we had in Borneo had a sauna, had I known, I could have called it a laconicum couldn't I? Never used the thing, you just had to go to sit outside for a steam bath much of the year!!
