In the last hour my elder daughter's boyfriend has just rung from Yorkshire asking for her hand in marriage!
He has bought a beautiful ring and will propose on her birthday, 20 November!
I'm so excited - he's a very nice guy - I promised I'd try to be an OK mother-in-law -
It's all happenening!
Overwhelmed!

Congrats on all fronts, Munch - that's brilliant !
And just think, once you have recovered from the current stress and strain of selling-up, moving-out and moving-in, you can move joyfully on to the stress, anxiety and general hairpulling-outness of organising said daughter's wedding ...

How delightfully formal, I didn't realise young men still did that.
I do hope he asked her informally first.
Trying to concentrate on packing...

I'm determined to be more efficient today.
1 Mr Brown Fangs wants to retain our horrid old cooker. Therefore, I painted it with noxious cleaning stuff last night, and must now scrape off the loosened carboniferous deposits. Yerghh!
2 Airing cupboard into Lok'n'Store box
3 More clothes into ditto
4 Er.. farewell lunch with friend, the arranging of which has brought me many reproaches from the Packing Maestro.
5 Garden tools
And so on...
I kept drifting into soppy excitement yesterday, wondering what sort of wedding Susannah would want. That's if she says yes! Mary, he will propose on her birthday, and, having dished out parental blessings, we are sworn to utter secrecy in the meantime - well, apart from telling Forum members world-wide, but I know you all are ultra discreet!
OK, rubber gloves on! At this rate I'll be the only Mother of the Bride in Marigolds.

First, congrats on getting her that far!
Sounds like a revolutionary fashion statement; what about the green wellies?
However, don't marigolds have some sepulchureal significance to Hindus? We would not want to invoke some form of bad luck curse

Happy Days Munch
Jess and John have decided to marry on February 2, next year - they were going to wait until John has permanent residency (he's a Pom) and Jess had finished Uni, but since both families will be in Oz early next year, and the fact that the Oz Government have, without any warning, changed Visa regulations, it's all on in about 12 weeks.
John didn't ask our permission - I'm guessing that he is aware that we are all too happy to hand over responsibiity for our lovely but exhausting daughter

.
Just about to design invites. The ceremony will be in the courtyard at Martin's (ex) property, where Jess, John and assorted four legged (and three legged - Maggie the greyhound had a back leg amputated about 10 days ago) reside. The three of us have just been trying to take up the amount of space required by approximately 100 people, in an effort to see if everyone will fit.

Back to the very first post of this thread.... how well you put it, Ben.
In haste, as computer about to be dismantled. Drove to Devon with cat, pathetic miaows of protest from here to Avebury (harrowing) put cat in cattery, stayed over with FIL, listened to military anecdotes, hired van, came back, now loading it.
I don't think it will be big enough *cries again*
Have to be ready to go 1200hrs tomorrow.
Pressing on.
