As a new girl, I remember Upper and Lower Dormitories - the two rows of sagging iron bedsteads, but on every junior bed at least one bear, bunny or other treasured cuddly toy. I was wondering if the little girls still bring their toys from home, or if they are far too sophisticated these days?

On my last whole day visit to C.H. for a Coleridge B re-union day, we were shown around the dorms by some of the girls.

Not at all as I remembered them - In fact, it seemed like a totally different world.

In answer to your question, Angela, there were teddies, gonks, and dolls of all descriptions adorning the place.

At the risk of being called sexist, though having two daughters, I can only describe the scene as 'homely' and 'girlie'

even though on my deps i didnt borad (seeing as acutal home was at CH) to cover the almighty spanse of white walls there were in the sutdies, i used to keep hold of nice bags from shops such as Zara, Topshop promotional etc to adorne the walls!
Also on my grecians there are photos of my study where on the top shelp were tiara's and wands from my 18th and a line of beany teddies collected from various places such as Dublin, Nurenburg!

Many of us decorated the sparse werdropbe doors and pinborads with all sorts of things, i covered my cupboard doors with pictures of Jonny Wilkinson as he had just come into the England team. Nick nakcs from various holidays, nights out etc!

My Life is ruined. Totaly ruined.

Well, my D.T. coursework to be honest. It got put in the washing machiene and its fallen apart. Right now I'm in hysterics, the deadline is friday and my bedspread is unfixable.

On a slightly less somber note, well, I'm actualy in such a foul mood that it's hard to write anything less than totaly angsty.

At least at CH D.T projects don't get put in the washing machiene, do they?. Or is this just a non-boarding experience: getting your coursework ruined through annoying mothers who think that it ' needed a bit of a wash'. Or that it got covered in flour or somethign because you had to carry it on public transport and it was too big to fit in your bag.

My youngest daughter is also presently undergoing the agonies of impending coursework deadlines for her GCSEs.

Last week one of her books mysteriously disappeared at school so yours truly had to go and buy another copy to enable her to complete the work on time.

Your situation sounds a lot worse though. I hope you can negotiate an extension given the circumstances!

I think your mother should write a contrite letter of confession to your DT teacher on your behalf.

I begged and pleaded the teacher today: no extensions.
It's ridiculous. They should abolish coursework. It's so open for cheating and there is so much lesson time dedicated to coursework that it cuts down on actual learning time. It's also really annoying when you've left your coursework at home on the deadline or that you lost it on the bus etc.
GCSEs are just annoying. They aren't even hard, and that's the annoying point. There is just so many different pieces of ocursework for stupid amounts of lessons that you get confused and disorganised. At least at A Level one's class load is shortened to 3/4.

Question. Is it possible to take 4 A2s at Ch?.

Some years ago I visited one of the boys' Houses on the occasion of my godson's Confirmation - son of my dear frend Deirdre Hobbs. We went up to the sleeping quarters and I can honestly say it was bare, dark and spartan. There were no homely touches. One cell appeared to be particularly wrecked. What had happened in here, I wondered. "He's been rusticated" was the response from my godson.

I'm very pleased that things must have improved!

The great trick was to target some poor individual who like running down the dorm and jump on his bed.

Gently remove about four of the boards and watch him disappear through the ensuing hole !
