Useless fact: you all share a birthday with my beloved Grandma who is 87 today.

Thank you so much for your good wishes everybody. The Ides of March may not have been a particularly good day for some, but for those of us who share a birthday with he who conquered Gaul, we are happy indeed to have survived another year without sharing his deathday. (Is that a word? If not, it certainly ought to be.)

And I tell you what, folks, guess where I spent it?

Yes! You are right! For the first time since March, 1955, I spent it at a certain educational establishment near Horsham. I had been shunted up to the Gatwick area for a meeting in Brussels (supposed to take place yesterday and this morning), but somehow things went awry, and I never took off.

So here I am - to enjoy yet another glorious day wandering over Big Side with Jonathan, and watching Dinner Parade under a clear blue sky. I never thought the day would come when once again I would be woken on my birthday to hear the chimes of the Big School clock blending with the spring chorus of birds in East Gun Copse. What a rare treat indeed!

Sounds like you had a really fantastic day David, and the weather, like today was brilliant.

There is something very nostalgic about the chime of the Big School clock. People say that certain smells transport one back to ones childhood, but sounds obviously do as well !
