There were still vegetables in Buck House Gardens, when I was on Guard Duty there in 1946 !

And if you look at the Sunday Times today, HMQ has copied les Obamas in the White House and has designated part of the gardens at Buck House to be changed to a vegetable patch which will provide all its produce into the Palace kitchens. HMQ has launched the public face of this initiative (which must have happened some time ago because the beans are all ready to pick......) with a photo of her and Princess Margaret, as teenagers, picking french beans in the Palace gardens during the War.

I have just returned from Italy, where, in Verona, they were making a film "Letters to Juliette"
This was being filmed in the street under Juliet's Balcony --- (Yeah Right !) which is about 60 feet up !
The point for Pedant's Revolt is the notice, in Italian and English, which adorned the taped- off street

I quote the English version -- which is shorter ! and verbatim -- with lack of punctuation
"A motion picture, tentatively titled "Letters to Juliet" will be filmed here today. By entering and your presence here you consent to be photographed and filmed and acknowledge that such photographs and film of you may be used in any and all media throughout the universe in perpetuity you understand that all photography and filming will be done in reliance on this consent given by you
if you do not wish to be filmed do not enter this area"
The Italian Newspapers gleefully reported, on the following day, that they didn't have permission to close the street anyway !

Of such things are Memories made ----- HO HO !

But I am slightly concerned about "The Universe, in Perpetuity" --- now there IS a threat !!!

No -- not in that one !
I have been in a few, in my time, but whenever one of them appeared on late night TV, my Sons invariably chorused ----

"DAD DAD ! That was the WORST film, ever made ! "

It didn't matter which one --- the comment was the same !

Sic transit gloria --- (Gloria's been sick in the Transit ! )

At the turn off from the A24 for the school there used to be a sign which said Christ's Hospital Amenity Tip. No idea if it was later amended.

Wes Streeting, president of the National Union of Students, said: "My key concern is that to incentivise students to stay at home could be a barrier to choice. I would be concerned if people limit their horizons and study at home when there may well be a better course or university elsewhere."

Wes was (ha ha) apparently trying to talk about plans to ditch tuition fees for students who live at home and therefore wouldn't get a loan for living expenses.I don't think he quite managed it . Mind you, this was from the Grauniad.
