A Arensky, Allegri
B Buxtehude, Batten
C Couperin, Casals, Cordans
D Desprez, Dowland, Darke
F Farrant, Finzi
G Gibbons, Gabrieli, Gesualdo, Glinka
H Handl (as opposed to GF Handel), Hassler, Henry VIII of England
J John IV of Portugal
L Lassus (not related to the canine film-star ...), Lotti
M Monteverdi, Moeran, Mudd (yes, Tudor anthems!), Thomas Morley
P Palestrina, Pergolesei, Parry (OB)
R Rameau
S Stanford, Scheidt, Schutz, Sumsion
T Tallis, Tomkins
V Viadana, Vittoria
W Weelkes

That's off the top of my head for the mo.

Went to a music dictionary for X, Y and Z and found these:
X Yannis Xenakis (b. 1922), Greek. Began career as an architect studying under Le Corbusier, then changed to composition studying with Messiaen.
Y Vincent Youmans (1898 - 1946), American. Wrote "tuneful" (quote) musical comedies.
Z Riccardo Zandonai (1883 - 1944), Italian. Wrote orchestral works and operas.

With regard to the discussion on the Orff family, I believe there was a lesser-known cousin, Geraint Edward Robert Roy, who was known by his initials, but I'm not sure what survives of his work.

Cath I don't think much of your dictionary - there is no E after D, (Elgar) I after H (Ireland - John) K after J (Ketelby - Albert 1920's) N after M -(Neilson), O - Orff (stop it BOYS or I will ask Julian to take your buttons off you) Q after P (err) no U after T, or X, Y or Z

is it a new "chav" dictionary that is abreviated? If so you must have a very early edition as I gather the Chave dictionary only has about 8 letters in it now... I, F, U, K N, T, A, S - work out your own words from that!

I know now who / which Catherine you were talking about - I said Canteen Cath, you said no - BTW - Happy Birthday for Monday Cath....

How can you all watch that drivel???? Life ends as BB starts? Heavens above - you were all given a charge to uphold - now if it was a BB inside CH - it might be interesting - lets put some of the old masters in there! Sorry - something I can't get into at all, infact, as I turn off the tv etc at the mains, for the past 3 days it hasn't even been on! So I missed the Semi-finals of Eurovision.......

I hope you are all voting for England in those far flung places you live in.... I only watch it to hear Terry Wogan do his political slot!

sorry - that was a bit of a rant....

at least Eurovision is music (if you can call the noises they make such)

Bach's D Minor Mass is on in Truo Cathederal tomorrow night.... anyone going?

In real life I'm known as Catherine/Mummy, logged in here as cj (some of my initials) but given the moniker Canteen Cath at school by Charlie Smith when we were on the Grecian's Club commitee. As long as it's polite, I don't mind what I'm called!! And no, Frogboxed, it's not me on the DSBB forum. This is the only forum I'm currently engaged with. But our secret is now out. DBTS and I love BB! Should we have a BB7 thread?

Has anyone mentioned Souza yet? Can't have all these ex-members of the band on the forum and not have Souza down! Mind you he's not classical, but neither was Vaughan Williams, Handel or Thomas Tallis etc.

Just out of interest, why do Jude and Gt Plum hate BB so much ...?
