As far as I remember, all leavers received the bible, and school monitors got the prayer book as well. I could be wrong, though.

I know I just got the bible.

very glad my bible's KJV. shame Gemma somebody scribbled in it when I was getting it signed! (one of Matt's following).

why do you need a concordance for a hymn book? if you want another tune, just look it up in the metrical index.

Don't know what meter 'How shall I sing' is, but whatever it is there are bound to be loads of tunes...

Yup. You know about those meter index (sp?) things, surely? The numbers that were at the top right of the music for a hymn 7.8.7.8.7.8 type thing. They refer to the number of sylables (sp - again) on a line of a hymn. If you look in the back of the book, you'll see a list of other possible tunes with the same pattern - i.e. Glorious things of thee are spoken had two tunes - one called Austria and that other one the name of which escapes me.

That must be why I got one because I wasn't a school monitor either.

damn. Maybe they thought I wasn't good enough for a prayerbook but I could be a house monitor and make the juniors do stuff. I wasn't into the whole house monitor thing, seemed to me the houseparents just got free management out of it...

Dunno. Anyway - 1662 Prayer Book is very "old skool" and apart from the psalms, IMNSHO isn't that useful as all the modern services are very different nowadays. I've only heard of a few bells and smells churches in the City and a couple of ancient rural parishes in random Oldpersonfordshires who simply must have the 1662 services or they might self combust or something. You can tell I get on with that sort of person really well.

Having said that though, we did use a couple of phrases out of it for Agent Smith's and my marriage service (we melded about five different services) as some of the old language and sentance structure is quite superb and the modern versions were lacking in gravity.

We still use Evensong as per 1662 at the church I go to...

It's quite a middle of the road anglican church as well to be honest...

well I'm quite open minded about church and stuff, maybe don't care enough about it for someone who goes twice a week but my church (St Peter's Streatham) does bells and smells in a big way but evensong is Evensong and Benediction which is all very Catholic...

I go for the singing, which is good.
