What Do You Wear In Bed?

Oh my! I love this topic! My mum had the most fabulous nightie collection, because she used to go to hospital a lot!!!!
Each time she went in for a stay someone bought her a new one I'm sure. I remember many a time going nightie shopping with my list of specifications.
Pretty without being too girlish.
Cool (it's hot in hospital) without being revealing.
Easy to get on and off.
Not too many ribbons or buttons to come off and need mending.
Not BLACK!!! (whyever not?)
And not too short!!!
And so on...
I developed a real "eye" for the right nightie and have it to this day.
Trouble is mine mostly end up on the floor long before the night is over as I just get so HOT - it's my age/hormones you know!!
Still, I need to keep them handy in case of a fire, keeping up one's image is just as important in the middle of the night surrounded by firemen as it ever is on some hospital ward being examined by the latest heart specialist!!

My Mum likes nighties like Liz's mum's. Has to have her shoulders uncovered. I am the opposite, I could sleep in a short t-shirt as long as my shoulders are covered.

My Mum is now 80 and has had some ill-health over the last few years and I have noticed that for hospital she likes cotton pyjamas.

I have a collection of oversized T-shirts and wear them winter & summer - used to have nighties, including the sexy lacy sort, but they just ruck up during the night and are uncomfortable. I agree with Mary - as long as my shoulders are covered, I'm happy.

Reminds me of Lovely Daughter - she used to wear a miniscule tanga to bed and very little else - until the flat next to hers caught fire and the fire brigade insisted on taking her out the window and down the ladder.... the skimpy kimono jacket she threw on did little to save her blushes, or the whistles of the firemen.... she now wears a t-shirt like Mother !

What a thought, Barbara!

I've never so far thought of dressing for the Fire Service, although I have once decided not to investigate a strange creeping noise downstairs because I was wearing some old black and red Scottie-dog-print pyjamas and thought a burglar might not find them attractive.

But firemen! I love firemen! Let this be a lesson to me. Whenever it's bedtime, I shall envisage being carried down a ladder (fireman's lift) and dress with due care.

Liz, my sister and I chose, over the years, prettier nightgowns for our mother, but strangely, the winceyette prevailed!

Hello all - honestly talking about what you wear in bed - and actually admitting you take it off!!!!!!! horror of horrors!!!

I have cotton pjs! thus should I have to be retrieved by ambulance or fireman I am suitably covered! I wear them all the time - summer I have ones with just a tiny strap on the top but I'd rather sleep under a sheet (as I often do) than take off my pj's! I find all that skin far too much of a worry and it sweats more with nothing on!

But then I am a real stick in the mud spinster who is now out for comfort rather than anything else!

Having a rough time with MS hence very little to say - Even EA hasn't had much from me - also have lost 35lbs since Aug 10th and intend to lose lots more! (May be then I will set fire to the living room furniture and call the fire brigade and see if they are any good!!!!)

35lbs, Jude! You must be full of willpower! Impressed!

In my current clear-out-for-packing mode, I have found a little strappy camisole and shorts set I'd forgotten about.

What's that fabric effect called, where there's a cut-out velvet design on top of a sheer fabric? Well that; little black velvet spots on a black silk base. I seized on this alluring nightwear with glee and will wear it tonight.

Of course I hope there won't be a fire, but, if there is, I shall be prepared!

Munch I can't remember the fabric's name - if I hadn't read your post I would have remembered it! It's here in my head and all that comes out is bias / baise / so I'm kind crap! But I know what you mean and can visulise it!

Well I'm not sure wether to call the Fire Brigade in a dvavnce now of what!

Thanks for the welcome - it's not been a holiday! But never mind!

As it is going to drop to 4C tonight - will you all please put on your thermal long johns and vests as well as your pj's. Ladies if you only have neglies, then put on some jogging pants and a long sleeved t shirt - I want no reports to Matron that any of you has caught a cold over night - Do you all understand??

last night i had to get the winter pj's out-M&S long pj bottoms and one of the many old tops i have got stored up which i no longer wear during day (mainly bleached or with holes.) and pj bottoms tucked into the socks to stop them from riding up
