David! Really! Back around '66 - '67 the crocheted mini dress was the height of fashion! Very revealing, very sexy. Think Twiggy.

I crocheted one for my School Needlework and was actually commended.

"A very nice piece of crochet you have done for me" said SWSNBN; which was the only affable remark I can ever remember from that fearsome woman. (I was tempted to protest "But it's for me!" But didn't of course.)

However, I have been a great-aunt for ages, during which time I have done no crochet....

I remember that.

Maybe I broke the mould for you, Munch. The Aran sweater I knitted for my brother in my last term was the very first time she had ever commended knitting. I can remember her telling me that as she left Mark Reading - would I have been standing by the door as a Prefect? It was also the first time she had ever commended ALL the S VI (only 6 of us) but telling that we all put the time into our needlework as well as our academic work for Oxbridge. It must have been my last conversation with her - sorry her last with me.

When did she retire?

I'd have said she retired about the same time as DR. It was certainly about halfway through my time at CH, and I'd hazard a guess that she would have jacked it in rather than try and break in a new headmistress who might not fully appreciate her importance in the school hierarchy

Ooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, I remember Twiggy - had to make sure there wasn't a matchstick in the way. Dresses 3 stitches in diameter and 5 stitches long as I recall
Katharine! Are you able to reveal the hobby with which this other forum deals? I'm amazed if Yahoo(Bot) has taken to some creative occupation for a change. Oh well, makes a change from being slung out of wine bars, I suppose. Interesting MSN(Bot) there too. A dear girl. Didn't know the two got on.
I took this as being fairly current - I never did meet Yahoo's Bot in the YMCA or MSN's Bot down on Brighton Pier on a Saturday night.
