Exactly why I put in bold that you might just be able to translate it.mvgrogan wrote:sejintenej wrote:Yes - Maria might even be able to translate it for you (it's Swedish) and it is even played on the internetHannoir wrote: Sejintenej (is that right?!)![]()
OK - firstly, I'm in Finland, not Sweden.
However.... 6% of Finns speak Swedish and he studied Swedish at school. Although that was a LONG time ago, he was able to translate for me...SEJ INTE NEJ - Don't say No

Ouch!mvgrogan wrote:When I first saw this last night, he was already asleep and so I googled...
I came across something called "Sejintenej - a choir of Idiots"(nuff sed).

At least she is somewhere comfortable and a grandchild to fuss over.mvgrogan wrote:Mum still here with me... several small airports have been opening for a few hours at a time for domestic, low-flying flights...but no hope of a UK flight out for a while.

Re: Volcanoes?
In fact, David, two grandchildren here to fuss over; one is teething, the other has a sore throat and cough, and we are waiting to see whether either of them develops spots! Several of the children who played together at the party following Xander's baptism have since developed chicken pox, in assorted parts of Europe (Finland, Scotland, Kent). Anyway if I am still here for Vappu (May Day) all the touristy places will be starting to re-open for the season - who knows? I may yet get to meet a Moomin!!

Re: Volcanoes?
Since the Aircraft and Aerodromes are now in business again --- may I venture the Post, which has been in my mind --- but I have not dared to express ! ?
Our Holidays tend to be Camping (Down JR !) and Cruising, neither of which involve Aircraft (As an Ex-Para it is the LANDINGS I don't like !!)
On a more serious note, I pity the "Stranded" who were told to travel to Madrid (More Expense) where there would be Coaches to take them "Home".
GBs "Promise" ----those few that DID manage to get on a coach, were then told --- at Calais (!) that they must pay, as Foot Passengers --- sorry ***"""¬¬++^** Passengers !!!
Perhaps this should go on the "Forthcoming Election" Topic
IT is not GB's fault --- but will any incompetent Whitehall Mandarin lose his job ?? --- I doubt it !

I wouldn't mind betting that our JH has set off on a mercy mission for DBTS & Co.

I think you'll find that JH is THIS side of the channel at the moment.

Re: Volcanoes?
I heard on the wireless earlier today that the disgraceful Irish spiv, O'Leary, whom presides over Ryanair, has decided that his company will meet its obligations after all.
That will hopefully mean DBTS and family, along with others, will not be out of pocket for their unscheduled extra accommodation and subsistence costs.

Yeah, but apparently they are going to sue the EU over their "ridiculous" laws. Profit over safety, clearly.

Re: Volcanoes?
The merits of whether the EU should be making laws affecting the UK is debatable and possibly more suited to the election thread. The same applies to Eurocontrol (via its branch office NATS) deciding to completely close UK airspace.Hannoir wrote:Yeah, but apparently they are going to sue the EU over their "ridiculous" laws. However as things stand the system is as it is and customers should not suffer because the spiv doesn't like it!

Pleased to see O'Leary has had a change of "heart". What would have happened if he had decided s0d EU rules?

Arrived today from Santander.J.R. wrote:anniexf wrote:I wouldn't mind betting that our JH has set off on a mercy mission for DBTS & Co.

Unfortunately by the time DBTS made contact it was too late for him to get to Valencia or Barcelona, so that we could have made our way from there.
In fact, the Santander/Portsmouth Brittany Ferry I was on was absolutely packed with foot passengers who slept wherever they could find space. We had a two person cabin so there was no room for anyone else, but I heard a wonderful story at breakfast.
Ahead of us in the queue were a family with three small children, one of 16 months. They had come up from Peñiscola, about a 100km north of Valencia, where they have a house. Not sure how they got to Santander but it is a trek. The night before they had been bedding down on the floor of the ferry when a man came up and offered them his 4 berth cabin. Apparently his firm had booked it for him and he was on his own. He had wandered around the ship and decided that this family really needed a cabin, so they got it. He slept on a chair on one of the inside decks, I think. The family were very grateful indeed but it shows that in a crisis, most people will do the best they can.
All the foot passengers had missed flights and most had decided that Ryanair would not pay.
We stayed the previous night in a pension at a pilgrimage site near Santander, where there were about 20 Irish pilgrims, all stranded from the Ryanair flight from Santander to Cork. 20 different opinions, but the majority thought that Ryanair would not pay, and they were going to get a bus to the French border and then try to get to northern France for a ferry to Ireland. Of course, no-one had any cash to pay their bills, so they were extremely worried people.
Everyone had a story except for us, as so far, the trip has gone to plan, so I will be in CH on Saturday.
