The "march" to the cathedral is indeed very brief (no more than 5 minutes) and is happening VERY early. In my opinion it would not be worth watching. The march from St Paul's will commence at approx. 11.45 and will last for 15 minutes or so.
That is the opportunity that I would choose were I still a parent with a child at the school. This will be the only opportunity as the children will have to remain in the Guildhall at all times before heading back for Sussex.

So do they march from St Paul's to the Guildhall? And where do they march FROM in the first place? Have relatives planning to be there so have to pass on the info.

Yes to the first question, but the pre-Cathedral march and the drop-off are both closely guarded at the request of the police. Sorry.

Look at the message on the School website.

The message on the school website suggests that people will want to 'follow' the parade; but for anyone wanting to get a few decent photos, and indeed for anyone less mobile, it would probably be far better to find a good vantage point somewhere along the route rather than follow from behind. Howard, are you able to give any detail of the planned route?

OK, I realise this is blindingly obvious to any OBs, but as someone who doesn't know London at all well I don't have any idea where the Guildhall actually is! I guess I'll just have to join the throng following the parade from St. Paul's on Friday (even I can find that, it's got a dirty great dome on it!) and find out...

What sort of world are we living in when the location of a school trip is such a closely guarded secret; another example methinks of a ridiculously over-egged risk assessment on somebody's behalf? Is this really what the police are dictating?

Methinks you have misinterpreted my drift.
Disembarking from 20+ coaches is not going to be the easiest of exercises. Perhaps the police were keen that there should not be hundreds of "wellwishers" in addition clogging up the pavements,

I've just looked on Google maps, so now at least I've found out where the Guildhall is... However, several alternative walking routes are suggested - which one will the CH parade be taking?

I would suggest the most obvious ...a phalanx of pupils 6 or 8 deep will not be skittering down side streets - and don't forget the size of the band!

I have never attended the St Matthews Day Parade but look forward to attending tomorrow. The school suggest outside the Cathedral at midday.
