Teenage lads discovered quickly that the fob doors which mark the entry to every dorm can be modified.
Sellotape over the magnetic contacts will make it easier to 'rip'.
Ripping refers to the pulling of the door so hard the magnetic contacts are pulled apart. The juniors cant do it for a start. It can result in pulling the magnetic contact out of the door (its at the top), or even pulling the door frame away from the main building structure, as happened in top floor north PeA, when I was there.
All the screw-on door stops have been nicked too. Don't ask why. We dont even see them again. I have no idea where they've gone. The only things that work are the showers. Even the tuck lockers break!

Hi Luke
Great to see some postings from the coal-face. I tried to PM you but kept getting an error message - "invalid session". Does anyone know why? CH filtering??
Anyway I used the email addy on your profile.
I am sure we all wish you well and hope that you will not spend as much time in displacement activity here as some of your elders.

but then George III banned the wearing of headgear by CH peeps after failure to remove in his presence, I believe. Hence it no longerr forms part of the uniform.
Anyone got a picture of housey headgear for Shoz - he will want to see it, I'm sure.

I don't have a year for this, but the caption underneath says,
"We all looked upon Grecians as some kind of god"
The hat has gone, and so has the philospophy but the coat is the same.

Yes angel - that's the pic I remember. I wonder in what year hats were removed. Just think if CH peeps still had to wear them! Wonder if there are any for sale on ebay?? a little dusty and moth-eaten by now, perhaps.

I note that the bands are awry and the buttons seem a little odd too. Thank God they still wore the girdle the sensible way round 'though.

It is in the Victorian section of the book, so after Georg III.
the girls hats went in around 1968/69.
