What would he do Neill, take you walking stick away?

I don't somehow think that the grammatical error is his.

I don't use a Walking stick --- except to gain un-merited sympathy, but I would still, hesitate to criticise a man who has Cambridge Blues for Cricket, Rugby, and a "Half" Blue for Fives, Chairman of the MCC and Master of Radley --- no I don't think that the grammatical error was his,! ----- but I wouldn't even bring the matter up, in casual conversation !!!!  ------ and I am (Mistakenly) still reckoned to be a "Bit 'ard ) at 81 --- see my recent Post on Penguin Bashers !-

I seem to remember he made the first XV at the obscene age of about 16 !! same for the First X1 ----
perhaps someone, from about 1949 will confirm, or correct this ?

My Dad is just the same at 84.

He was out with my son (23) and son ran up some steps leaving Grandpa way behind, tottering up on his stick dot and carry a step at a time. Son shouts down for Grandpa to hurry up to many tuts from nearby people, Grandpa throws stick to son and runs up two at a time. Grandson and Grandpa fall about laughing.

Back to Pedants -- this Morning, the School's Minister,Diana Robinson, announced that "There are several options to choose from"
The SCHOOLS MINISTER --- ???

I felt like writing her a letter, pointing out that there are several other jobs, from which to choose !

My tough father-in law (MBE) despite being in need of a walking stick - aged 82 years old, and a Korean War hero -
would shudder at the the thought of being a called a "hard 'un".

Oh dear, NEILL.

Englishangel --- that is her title --- no apostrophe, before, or after, so not of any particular School, or Schools !

I know that I tread on dangerous ground -- perhaps you will correct me ------- this being Pedant's Revolt !

But you HAD put in an apostrophe, clearly a typo as your English is impeccable but this IS The Pedant's Revolt, although it could be entitled The Pedants Revolt.

Lovely one in the Times column for pedants today, about the misuse of "might" and "may".

EnglishAngel -----WHAT APOSTROPHE ?

I have looked, on this Topic, and also on the "QUOTE" of what I said ---- and "I see no Ships -- only Hardships !"

I hesitate to argue with Chief Pedant but I reckon I am, in this case ----- Innocent !

Unless of course some Moderator's fingerprint is there --- but then, surely, it would have appeared both on my submission and the "Quote"

Is it, for me, Sackcloth and Ashes, or a Triumphal Arch ?

I can't think of a suitable Smiley but ----- or  will do.

Sorry Neill, the Chief Pedant and Head of Grammar is right! You have a superfluous apostrophe, I fear ...
