My nephews have a lucky draw ticket for France, so I guess I will support them.

I was SO pleased France put the Sardine fishermen out !!

AND the crowd boooooed that cheating little b*stard every time he got the ball !

I can't see him playing in the Premiership alongside Rooney next season !

I take back all my doubting comments aforehand - my beamish boys are into the final, and if fortune continues to smile, Sunday will see a repeat of glorious 1998 - Allez Les Bleus !!!!

What a disaster for him; I want to feel sorry for him because he's admirable and influencial but it's impossible to defend him - although I'm very interested to know what Materazzi said to him to make him retaliate like that, it must have been pretty bad but at the same time you can't excuse it.

I was once in Marseille a few years ago and was astonished and delighted to come across him personally. I admired him as a player anyway beforehand, but here he was in one of the unimaginably run-down areas where he himself grew up, helping with a construction and regeneration scheme and at the same time playing football with the local kids there who have an uncertain future like he had. I'll always be a fan of his but I dearly hope that he isn't remembered for that insane incident.

I have just watched the prequel to that incident and it appears that Matarrazzi pinched him (nipple?) through his shirt from behind, then said something to him, at which ZZ turned round and butted him.

Zizou has only one trigger-point, and that is his family and roots. The Italians had been gunning for him right from the start of the match, and I lost count of the number of un-called fouls against him .

Once into extra time, it is quite possible that the Italians realised that the only way to guarantee winning on penalities was to get rid of Zidane - and after his years with Juventus, they know just how to needle him.

It's very sad, and he must feel terrible - but let he who has never lost his cool throw the first stone.... I retain the memory of an amazing game against Brazil, a cohesive captaincy that brought France, against all odds, to a World Cup Final, and a professional career that has brought pleasure and indeed passion to many people. I am not a football fan, but I am certainly a Zidane addict !

I hope he will quickly get over this, and enjoy a well-earned rest with his family - but we will miss him on the pitches !

What have Zidane & J-Lo got in common?

All they'll ever be remembered for is a big butt...

Sorry to disappoint you , Marty, but Zizou has just been voted Best Player in the World Cup , and will receive the FIFA Golden Ball - first french player to do so since the creation of the award in 1982.... :supz: :D

He goes down in football posterity, whilst J-Lo just has a posterior...
