Mrs Plum nearly attacks people if they call her Ms Plum...
I once tried to explain to someone that if he was going to use my title (ie. Mrs), he ought to write Mrs Simon Standing as calling me Mrs Catherine Standing implied I was either separated or widowed, neither of which do I want (yet ...!). The chap looked at me blankly, so I gave up. I ventured he could call me Canteen Cath, but that was just as confusing.
But isn't this precisely the reason to use Ms instead of Miss or Mrs? Only those people who know personally are likely to know whether you are single, married, divorced or widowed so Ms can never be wrong. Incidentally, shouldn't the husband's forename continue to be used by widows?

if you call me Ms it sounds to me like I'm separated or divorced. And I will hate you for it. I'm not even married yet, so give me a chance. If you don't know, find out. Or be polite and call me Miss until you know, however old I am.

No, because use of her personal name shows she is a woman in charge of her own destiny.

Hence, Princess Michael of Kent: Diana, Princess of Wales should really be not have been dian at all, just Princess of Wales: Lady Thatcher.

Well - instead of being lazy, people should find out. I would rather someone asked. When called Ms, a friend of mine launches into the statement "It's Mrs. I'm not a spinster, lesbian nor divorcée." Which seems a little harsh and not particularly PC - but there we go.

The whole thing reminds me that I was taught never, ever, ever to write to Dear Sir or Madam. Firstly because it looks sloppy as you've not made the effort nor taken the time to find out who they are (particularly poor show on job applications) and secondly because if you are writing to a faceless company (e.g. to complain), how can you chase up your letter if you don't know who you're wrote to, to begin with?

Why not go for a double barrel name like Amy Leadbeater-skywalker?

Because that would mean you need long Christmas cards, like Angie's great uncle and Aunt who are:

The Reverend Canon and Mrs Jonathan Knowles-Brown

Just goes on for a bit really...
