I am a little surprised that there aren't more people on here on a weekend. Is this normal?

Yes. Most people who post on here only have time to do it while they are working.

OK, to be more precise, I don't have a reliable way of connecting to the internet outside of working hours as I have no connection at home.

However, occasionally it is possible for me to frequent an internet cafe to catch up with the world.
