My son who will be taking entrance exams this year did part of Santiago de Compostela over 2 weeks of August this year with his aunt. They got the ferry to Santander and coach to Leon and went from there.
Apparently really well set up with loads of hostels ranging form a barn to 4* but all very friendly. Some have their own kitchens others have deals with local restaurants for set price pilgrim's menus, 1 was above a bar and board included a bar meal and 1 he stayed in you left a donation for board and lodging and the next occupants ingrediants were bought form your donation.
He is already talking about working as a hostilier (sp?) in a gap year between school and uni.
