Hi cj

I really really thought that your lovely avatar was you holding your little girl. Many times I have been tempted to ask you the secrets of your youthfulness!

Now! At Hertford in my day (in my croaky ancient voice) we had own house shoes - brown slip on efforts, although there was a craze at one point for Dr Scholl sandals, own slippers, own games shoes, own hockey boots. Outdoor shoes were school brown lace-ups, solid clomphy things. They were obtained from a "little man" in the basement of the Science Block. I think it was here, but only made a couple of visits. Those shoes lasted for a long time!

The trick was - when the little man gave anyone a pair of well worn shoes, one would moan in pain, stand wincing, make a grimace of agony and tear the shoes from one's feet. This performance had to be repeated until the little man produced a new pair. Then one would reward him with radiant expressions of grateful enthusiasm.

At the beginning of the 70's lightweight Clarks Sandals were issued for summer. Very much cooler and more flexible than the lace-ups!

There was also a slip-on black broguey Sunday shoe. Not very attractive.

Enough to make us all love beautiful shoes once we'd left!

Those shoes sound lovely indeed!. :D
We're allowed normal shoes, slip ons, ballet pumps etc just nothing with laces as long as they are black.
My best friend's hand is all blistered at the momentand she can't write with it ( or do much else ) so she has to write with her Left hand because she refuses to let someone write out her work for her because it's just impossible and too much interference when you are trying to think. Especially when you can only express yoruself directly on to paper. She's also too stubborn and won't let her hand ruin her exam. :) I love that girl.

One more!!!!!!

My english coursework has to be the biggest load of rubbish I've ever seen but I got really high marks. We basically did a piece of Jane Eyre fanfiction and mine had to be re-done tonnes of times because I'm apparantly not allowed to kill her in my story since it has to fit seamlessly into the story and every re-write something more and more awful happened to her. But I had to write this dodgy detective novel and that was fab. Not too sure about the rest.

I'm sure you are brilliant at Archery Josh, just, with your intentions slowly being revealed I wouldn't come near you in the woods when you are pretending to be Haldir.

Replying to 2 posts here.

I had size 7 feet (very large for 1966) so there were no hand-me-downs.

Gemmy, have you read "The Eyre Affair" by Jasper Fforde? My daughter read it for her ASBO (Amersham School Book Organisation) and loved it. Perhaps something for the summer holiday.

Gemma!

I an just curious! Why doesn't your present school allow shoes with laces?

"Health and Safety"? In case you trip up? But what about the boys?

I'm baffled.

I'll give that book a shot. Sounds interesting.!

Well, there aren't any boys in my school so if they were wearing our uniform at all it would be worrying but It's just because the shoes are always on show due to knee length skirts and black tights and they look quite ghastly...... Not that the rest of it doesn't mind you. It's something about them other than that but I'm not too sure.

But quite a few people do wear lace ups. The rules always tend to slacken later in the year when the teachers can't be arsed to enforce them. :D

Yep, I'd behave just to get away from it! Sorry - I could't resist.

Gemma, you should have asked to do a Sil FF! Just stick a load of names in and baffle the teacher!

I've never attempted a Sil fanfiction. There is just too much going on to attempt it. We HAD to do Jane Eyre. I was soo annoyed. They couldn't have picked a better book to write about. It's an o.k book, just rubbish for fftion.

Josh!. I think most people will be baffled about Sil, even the examiner.

Exactly! If you can't undestand it, it has to be good!

Does that include terrible grammar? Because I would say terrible grammar is indeed terrible.

Yeah, that's pretty much all it says. Well it says other stuff aswell but thats the specifics. You can probably tell me more about it!

I'm staying at Col B and everyone esle is stayign in their respective houses except Thornton who are going in to Barnes for the induction week.

P.S. I'm soaked. Did anyone else get caught in that torrential downpour a couple of hours ago?. We were standing on westminster bridge and had no cover.......... But I did meet Jarvis Cocker so that was ok.

Managed to avoid it, though our patio was flooded.

Was he as arrogant as he appears on TV ?

Incidently, it's a shame you couldn't wangle a trip down to CH today.

Names to faces, and all that !!

He wasn't arrogant at all. He bought a coke from the cafe and signed autographs for ages!.

Yeah, It's a same but I have no excuse for being there. I am neither an old blue nor a current blue.
I hope you post lots of pictures though
