Really?. I didn't think it was that great to be honest. I love it and I will miss it but I doubt that it is one of the best. I wonder who would buy it?. I can understand the attraction of lower school, It's quite old ( and falling apart and has a tendancy to have doors in the middle of walls that don't go anywhere ) but Upper School is a greenhouse.
Does anyone have a link to the article?

I'm off to CH on Wednesday!!!!! I'm really excited and I can barely stand it. I'm going to be staying in Prep Block for my induction week aparantly but that's still great.

I'll be posting so many pictures and a nice long account once I get back.

Decamp in Prep Block may be fairly ghastly, but next term you will be in shiny newly refurbished Coleridge B - you will love it. Good Luck!

I'm definitely going to put an entire account of my trip and lots and lots of pictures. I've noticed a severe deficiency of realy recent pictures ( Not that it changes alot

Is Prep Block really that bad?????.

DBTS was 'in it' when he was there, but I think it was only used for classes in my time. I had Maths there one year I think, but I only really remember Religious Studies on my UF with Mrs Cairncross. My recollection of it is unadorned, cold and empty. Oh dear, this isn't the right thing to be saying, is it! But you'll be there with all your new friends and housemates. And of course you won't be living there come September.

I'm nervous now

....... But Prep block has to be at least better than living in a building site I suppose and I won't be staying there for that long so I can hardly complain.

Don't worry about it -most of us who went there survived.
OTOH it is a long walk to the dining hall and classrooms etc. so you will sleep well at night. Enjoy it!

Not for sale

, they have articles on thew best places to live in London for schools though it seems that girls go to Grey coat School from all over London.

Some wag at Truro High School for girls (she was a very mischeivous girl by all accounts!) put her school up for sale on ebay a few years ago. It was well advertised stating that it was conveniently situated in the centre of the city, and came complete with a large number of nubile, beautiful and hot young ladies and would without doubt make an ideal brothel.

I believe bidding reached over Â£12,000 before the school authorities managed to get it withdrawn from sale.

What is now known as the Prep Block was indeed a classroom block in my day. The Prep that I was "in" was then known as Prep B (now Leigh Hunt B). The classroom block behind the Prep boarding houses contained not only classrooms but a hall doubling as a gynasium with wallbars etc.

Apart from lessons in the Prep Block, we also had lessons in the Art School and the Manual School - although the latter consisted mainly of basketry and such. In the last year of the Prep, before going into the "Upper", I believe we learned how to make simple carpentry joints like mortice and tenon and bridle joints - 'though that may have come later.

Exactly the same in January 1958, David.

How I used to look forward to the walk up the avenue to the art-school and the lovely Nell Todd ! I'm sure she became a sort of mother substitute to many Preppies.

Incidently, I've just found a photo of the lovely Nell, dressed in all her finery which my late mother took around 1960 walking across the quad during Speech Day parade. (If anyone's interested !)

The prep block hall was later split into two enormous classrooms...

maybe it is now the day room...
