I suspect that the current pupils will either not know what we are talking about (Votum/Carmen) or - if they are now towards the top of the School, may remember hearing it at some point in the past, without having realised its significance.

Yes Caroline I believe that 'elitism' was the excuse for dropping it quietly.

I have to wonder whether discussions aren't already being held to drop the uniform. Has anyone heard any rumblings?

xx

There were rumblings under Peter Southern, but they came to nothing.....

I seem to remember this subject raised it's ugly head in the 70's. I recall the outcy was monumental.

The uniform IS the school as far as I'm concerned.

That sounds like a threat to me.
Most have met me and my family and would be pleased to inform you that I would be QUITE capable of giving the said lesson !
Nothing like a good beating to revitalise the spirit of the old days.
Just something I thought was interesting. Seems that people are allowed to threaten me, but I'm not allowed to tell them to mind their own business

NB: Why does everyone assume that I am a pupil? I will tell you honestly, right here, I am NOT a pupil.

Kimchi,

Your absence has been noted...Are you on holidays or have you not had the time to voice some of your ideas?
Enlighten us....

I remember Dr Pete suggesting the idea of day pupils and there was a big 'no' resounded in certain places about that as well... (I was probably a day pupil at the time, beinga non-foundationer!)

But why aren't people singing in chapel?

I remember when Peter Allwood (then head of music) would promise pizzas to the house that sang the loudest...

Malcolm McKelvey got us all going at Cong pract on saturdays and he would work us up by banging out on the piano in the middle of the aisle.

Can't imagine people not wanting to sing loudly in such a fine place as the CH chapel...

Ah, the Widor Kyrie - I spent £10 on the CD just for that track.

I know the votum - BCWG doesn't like the tune but it's on Music for the Festive Year (Allwood's reign).

My housey coat is! When I "slip into something more comfortable", more often than that it features yellow and goes down to the ankles!

Hopefully Mrs C will be there to provide the new members of Grecians West with biscuits!! (as long as that doesn't change all will be well in the land of Housey) I actually miss taking breaks from working and hijacking the tin of biscuits!!

Ah Laura - times have changed - we now have a House tuckshop in GRW!

I do one (or more !) trips to Sainsburys every week and buy lots of goodies to be sold at cost price - Very popular it is too!!

(We even have the odd spy from the enemy camp trying to purchase said goodies now and again)

I always found the Votum to be a bit dull... we used to sing it, but only occasionally...
