I have not actually suffered with any of the aforementioned female (or unisex) problems, but I am with Jude on the worry thing, one of mine has/had ME through his teenage years (seems a lot better in the last 18 months) and I suffered along with him.

Don't get me started on the worried mother lark. I have one with depression, before Christmas he went totally incommunicado and I seriously worried about suicide (him not me). The other son is proving himself totally unable to manage money with a similar wife. She had three children when they married and is due to give birth to their second this month - they are STILL surprised when she gets pregnant   . The blackmailing phone calls for 'loans' are totally shattering.

I keep meaning to print a sign for my car - to get rid of drivers who constantly sit almost in my boot....

Hormonal Female - BACK OFF!!

I think it is better than "baby on board" as often there is no baby on board - whereas in my car there is ALWAYS 1 hormonal female - and sometimes more!!!

Do you think it will catch on?

Well I can sympathise with you - my dear son of 21 told me in October just after his birthday that he had had a 1 night stand, drunk, stoned and with no protection and the girl was pregnant - at that point she was apparently 3 months or so and felt she couldn't have an abortion, and wanted to keep it. She has had it sexed - it's apparently a girl, due next month - I have no idea who she is, apart from her name is "Cat" so paternity test is imminent as she was apparently playing around anyway... however she is adamant that it is Chris's... he has no idea of handling money and thinks he can step into managing a shop! (LOL). My daughter has failed to get into any of her Uni choices for Medicine and is feeling suicidal, she has lost all self esteem and every day I get her up and make her lunch still - she's 18, depressed and cant sleep due to being stressed out.. It's a merrygoround that we as parent cannot get off.

my son self harmed while he was living in a flat - using cigarette butts to burn his arm - he didn't tell me I had to find out when he came home to live (only for the 3rd time)....... So Do I win the contest for youngest granny do you think?

That is a shame. No doubt you’re telling her that being turned down isn’t the end, and it really isn’t. There are different routes into it. Re-apply after a GAP year or first do an undergraduate degree in Biology (say) and apply to do medicine as a mature student with the advantage of prior knowledge. (I think it is quite common in the U.S. to do an undergraduate degree before going into medicine/veterinary medicine.)

I’m nearly at the end of my degree, and have realised that it’s not what I want to go into. I’m not bothered, because I’m already planning my studies with the Open University for when I finish.
I trained as a nurse then got married (having had to quit nursing as I had damaged my back) had 2 children, went up the wall with the gaga, went to the local college and did a 2 yr BTec Nat Cert in Computer studies (I chose it being blindfolded and with a pin), then went on as a very mature student to do dual hons in IT & Computing, now realise I hate it! although I'm not working, and want to go back into medicine myself - but guess what! I can't! I have to go back to college do 2 A level Chemistry and Biology's and then do the medical degree!! ARGH!

Sarah declined her grades as they didn't show her ability or potential, this I think is why she hasn't go a place.. I'm hoping that we can find her a place through clearing, otherwise I will have her home for a year making my life even more miserable!

So Simon - go train as a plumber as they are in short supply and are always needed - you get good money, cups of tea & coffee and get to work indoors!

However, this has nothing to do with childbirth - so unless you have that experience on route - then we'd better shut up!

Jude - careful.

I still wanted to be a medic after my languages degree - turned down a funded PhD at Harvard - attained rank of "Mother" - went back to college for a year - got the medicine required 4 'A' levels at A grades, worked every Friday night, all night, at A&E, along with loads of other experience to be told to my face at med school interview:

"...We don't think mothers make good medical students...."

Here at law school, I am the only single parent on my course, and I am judged according to merit not status. Been winning prizes since I got here. Think I'll take medical negligence cases.....

Be very careful.

I know a few people at southampton who next year are starting a post grad medics course after doing biomedical sciences, I know someone already doing a post grad medics degree after doing the same degree and one of my best friends has just got a place at bristol to study vetinary medicine after completing her biology degree at southampton. So really there are tons of ways to study medicine even if you don't do so well at A level.

Be very careful.
Or sex equality ones.

I once worked with a Senior House Officer (2 nd year after obtaining MBBS) who was 33. She had started medicine after having a stroke at 19, getting married and having 2 children, and this was in 1976.

I too wanted to be a doctor from the age of 10. With hindsight I was never going to get a med school place but I went on to do Biology and Chemistry at Uni. then did nursing: I got married straight after graduation and wanted something I could do anywhere in the world as I hoped husband would be a high-flyer. The first time I saw a baby born I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.

For those who don't already know, I am a midwife.

Jude,

You're not my wife under a pseudonym are you?

To be serious, whilst us mere males obviously cannot fully empathise with the physical pain of childbirth, I don't think you girls have a monopoly on worrying about children once they are here.

I am the father of 3 daughters and I can categorically assure you from where I'm standing that it can be unbelievably stressful but equally unbelievably joyful.

I'll go now before Jude does a Mrs Rochester in Jane Eyre and chases me with a knife or burns me

I can put my hands on a person and know exactly where they are hurting
I can tell a woman is pregnant before she knows herself
but I don't have a want or a broomstick....

Sorry yours have "errupted" - Perhaps my bad karma hit out at all females! Yes - about it being in triple - I had problems with the site and the pc then crashed - when I next looked there were three of them - which I felt was possibly a little OTT, so edited them out......

Hope you have fun in Belfast - I prefer Dublin!!

However, if you feel you have the energy to look at my negligence case on medical grounds (having the results of my blood test on file but the receptionist telling me everything was ok.... which lasted for 3 years, until I was almost in a coma due to having no thyroxine.........which has caused strain on my heart liver and lungs...) then you are welcome to take it on - however I think there is a 3 years statute which will prevent me from taking action as it is now 5 years since this happened and I am still not back to normal or work....
