I've heard about this one. There are many books on neoliberalism, all of them worth a read. The ones on GATS are probably the most urgent and essential.

Unless by Carol Shields. Very moving, well-written book. Probably one for the girls, though.

Also, anything by Joanne Harris, who I was lucky enough to meet at a writer's event and who is wonderful—completely down-to-earth and very, very funny!
I haven't read Gentlemen and Players yet (saving it for when I've finished the reading backlog), but as it's about a public school, am definitely looking forward to it!

Just Finished "Judas Unchained" - much better but yet again, almost too much going on...

I have also just finished the sequel...I'm going to have to read them again I think.

One of my favourite books has been confiscated - it's the original Lederer book of school-children howlers which is quoted everywhere and make me laugh even before I open it!

as for books "L'Arte Culinaire Moderne" by Pellaprat (where moderne = 1930's). Only thirty odd pages of ways of cooking a spud" and 980 other pages ...... It is a precis (pre as in "before") of all the subsequent books by TV chefs

Thinking of French books, has anyone heard of - or better still, own a favourite of my french teacher, which I think was called "Mots d`heure gosse rames" - or something like that. I`d love to get a copy of these poems!

Just finished an historical work, 'Surrey Murders', and a very gruesome book about crimes of murder and foul deeds in an around Guildford over the centuries.

Absolutely fascinating !

Just recently finished "Carter Beats the Devil" by Glen David Gold and nothing I can say can do justice to how gripping it is. One of the best 5 things I have ever read.

CJ- Did you get into His Dark Materials in the end? I hope so, I found them to have all the magic people claim is in Lord of the Rings but that I never found.

Anyone read or reading Geroge RR Martin's series "Game of Thrones" aka "Song of Ice and Fire"?

I recommend another book by Dan Brown called "Deception Point".
