School hockey skirt? AArgh. I am not going there. At Hertford (in another life, two million years ago, when I was hockey captain - and you would not believe that if you were to see me now, 40 or more years on ..) - we were not allowed to take away our sports kit. Oh dear (but we were given badges to use in perpetuity if we were particularly outstanding). Thank goodness (in a perverse sort of way) for Gemma's intimate interaction with all her pairs of socks. Time has moved on.............Christ's Hospital remains pre-eminent in all issues that matter (including the fixing of names on pairs of socks).

Speaking of old Hockey Skirts. Though I cannot claim to own one from 'back in the day' I did find my skirt from year 7 which surprisingly still fit ( though nearly killed me by constriction ).
It's an awful shame that I can only use the fully labelled name tags. I have hundreds of old ones with just my name on that are going to be sadly never used......

Was that an unsubtle hint that you were going to offer to sew all of my name tags on :D :D :D

Of course you can do them all. I would be more than happy to let you.

I think I need to apologise for being so mean to you publicly on the forum. I'm sorry!

Of course I was, Gemma! I can't guarantee quality of course, or being able to do it, but I'll try.

As long as you remember our deal regarding scout uniform :D

I don't remember a Sports Star badge? :o Can you remind me what the
hockey teams wore Kerren? Perhaps a merciful Nature has caused me to forget after the torture of thwacking about in the bitter cold. I do recall playing in the same tunic as we wore all the time, but with an aertex pale blue blouse underneath. Weirdly, Nellie made me Captain of the Second Eleven. Why? Why?

Kerren was the School Sports Star all right! Amazing girl!

Are you sportive, Gemma?

I recently got into trouble on another site when I made some ambiguous comments about Scouts and Guides, so I'll leave Gemma and Josh alone.

Whatever turns you on, and all that................

Forgive my male ignorance, but what's aertex when it's at home? It sounds a tad scientifically advanced for the war years, Angela...

The reason I ask is that when I went to drama school, I had a clothing list sent to me, which took me back many years. On the list, horror of horrors, was a lycra catsuit. I kid you not. I was 40 and overweight. I took a pair of cycling shorts.

Am sure Angela is pleased that you think she was at Hertford in the war years! Aertex was (is?) a loose woven heavy cotton, so that your skin could 'breathe' through the 'holes'.
The badge to which I referred was called 'Colours'. They were presented to outstanding sports people for specific sports. I got mine for hockey. While at school I got the school crest to sew on my blazer pocket, and when I left I got a different 'Old Girls' badge to everyone else. In fact DRW borrowed it back from me a couple of years later, so that it could be copied (they had run out....).

The Body Beautiful

Post by Angela Woodford »

Funny!

This has totally made my day. I am blitzing my way through my bedroom prior to The Valuation and was feeling a bit fed up - now I am convulsed, giggling.

I'm sure you looked lovely in the cycle shorts, but a lycra catsuit would have been superb!

Did anyone else have one?

Aertex is a sort of wholesome-and-healthy cotton fabric - a weave with lots of little holes for body ventilation during Activity. Considering that only the sleeves and V-neck were visible when also trussed up in a tunic, it rather defeated the point. However, we wore just the aertex shirt and "blues" for gym!

to bring it back to name tags, i only sewed them onto sports kit, i was not scarring my normal clothes with them and washed these all myself (or took them home as thats 2mins down the road) Even when i got to grecians and i was full time boarding, did my own washing there i still didnt name anything just made sure i took it out the machine before someone else did and hung it in my room!
I never lost an item of clothing....CD's yes, i left CH with less than I had!
