I introduced my neice and nephew in Haywards Heath to the practice, and to dutch colleagues when I was working for Numico Australia.
Great to hear that others are doing their bit to spread the practice.
Do Tescos stock all the new varieties Arnotts are producing? White truffle, dark chocolate, latte, chilli, and black forest spring to mind.
If anyone organises a forum get together I promise to send a box for you all to try at afternoon tea.

I don't think we had to wear hats for every foray outside the school gates, eg shopping trips - though I might be confused here as I don't think my year would have been allowed out shopping until after the abolition of hats anyway. I thought it was mainly with best uniform and/or on Sundays. Or maybe I just don't remember at all
It seemed so important at the time, all those years ago!

I never dreamt that I would be lucky enough to join you all

Fingers crossed that my suitcase doesn't get left on the tarmac at Singapore, or we'll be licking the chocolate off my clothes.
Mary, your memory is phenomenal

Hey I stand corrected with the hats! Maybe my mind "edited" the photo at some unconscious level due to me being such a stickler for skool rules (ha!)
Still not sure whether I can venture into Hertford in April without the right kind of headgear......

Hi Liz
I don't remember hats being abolished, and thought that heads were covered in that photograph.
Infact, I went back to it twice (couldn't find the original, but tracked it down on the CHA photo page), thinking that, perhaps, the caps were being worn far back on the head and I had missed them at first glance

I stayed on at CH until 1972.
I think we wore hats of all types until 1970-ish. I think it's possible that we were allowed to go into Hertford without chapel caps BEFORE they were abolished for chapel....?
I remember experiencing cognitive dissonance when we no longer had to wear chapel caps to chapel ! What had once been unthinkable and punishable became normal, overnight (to enter the chapel bare - headed)...just like that.
If DR had O.K.ed it then we were clearly immune from the wrath of God, at such disrespect.
I will always associate my days at CH with wearing various styles of hat. There were even old relic Panamas in the wardrobe room with big brims all the way round ( ours stylishly had smaller brims which flattened out at the front).
Sunday walks on The Meads ( which Sixes and Threes took together ) involved chasing our wind blown Sunday hats around ( Panamas in summer and Velours in winter) while 3's housemistress ( what was her name again ?) shouted " Cem along gels, keep up !"

I think these went out very early in my days. The Mons had three stripes on their hat ribbons everyone else had two. I found this very strange when I first saw it but soon learnt the significance of Mons! Before GAs the Mons wore BAs and didn't stand out in terms of uniform as much as they did later.Alexandra Thrift wrote:I stayed on at CH until 1972

Miss Thompson, (not so) affectionately known as Lil; she of the amazingly piercing voice. She was head housemistress when I first went to CH, so we were treated to her shrill tones every breakfast and lunchtime. Poor old 3's - or maybe they just got immune to it.Alexandra Thrift wrote: Sunday walks on The Meads ( which Sixes and Threes took together ) involved chasing our wind blown Sunday hats around ( Panamas in summer and Velours in winter) while 3's housemistress ( what was her name again ?) shouted " Cem along gels, keep up !"

Right! Back on topic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The time is nigh for our deposit to be paid to Café Rouge. Emails have been sent out to all (fingers crossed) those who replied to the FR emails, asking for a committment asap (Saturday at the latest).
Please will everyone reading this (Kerren, Mary Mc, Liz, Munch and Alex are excused
) either post here or send me an email requesting a dinner seat be reserved for them. I repeat that I know that we still have over a month to go, but the café (quite reasonably in my opinion) want numbers and a deposit by this weekend. Please, anyone who feels like posting to tell me that we should be able to wander around Hertford on the evening of 5/4 and easily find an estabilishment that will seat and feed us, don't.
Would you also please indicate your willingness or otherwise for me to post a list of intended attendees here? I can think of at least one reason for this being a bad idea, but my idea is that people can check that I haven't forgotten to include anyone (I'm feeling somewhat fallible at the moment
.
Thanks Everyone.

Hi Caroline
I know you said I'm excused but I feel so much more SECURE mailing to say I am a YES.
Years of nobody wanting me in their team for hockey/netball have left scars you know....
Thanks for doing all the (good) organisation, looking forward to the weekend!
