When I went to CH the talk there was almost another language; I came close to being beaten by Mr Jones as a result of not understanding what was being said.
As a result I was forced to learn CH English - and I occasionally get teased about my accent - the last time was yesterday**, some 47 years after I left the place!
** would that be grounds for divorce?

It's been over a month, and nothing has been posted from the Peaceful Revolution!
Has it gone so underground as to have become the Resistance?
No - really - what news?

I have no idea! I've asked my daughter, but she still hasn't forgiven me for allowing her friends to e-mail me about it over the summer (NOT COOL) and thereby attracting attention. As far as I can tell, nothing much has happened.

That surprises me, Caron. Your original post stated that the Revolution was hoping for Old Blues to pitch in with support!
I had turned the pages of Stephen Fry's "Moab is my Washpot" in order to find some activity which correlated with CH Horsham's Helicopter Game (found it instead in "The Liar"!) so came across the philosophy of Uppingham -
"to turn out polite, cheerful, all-round chaps... a well-mannered decent fellow with a stout heart but not too much between the ears".
Then I turned to wondering if there was any stereotype of the CH man, as such.
As far as Hertford is concerned, many of the Old Girls whom I've met have seemed, imho, very h, to be capable multi-tasking endurance women, who don't complain. I know that this is a huge generalisation, but we did accept the system, regarded our daily routine as inevitable and got through the years finding enjoyment in small and sometimes subversive eccentricities - but we conformed on the whole, except for the successful Food Strike of 1971! However, although my memories are still so alive, the Hertford routine is now dead and a generation of girls have had a different CH experience.
So, I admit to taking an interest in today's pupils who feel that things can be changed through negotiation.

I am deeply wounded, Angela, deeply. Did you think you could slip that in without anyone noticing? And to cap it all, you finish with 'as such'... - deeply, deeply wounded. I may have to consider leaving the forum.

I shall forever be grateful to the Forum. After all, I have come to appreciate CH men now, Philip! (Wheedly voice) Creative original, magnificent men! (Drops wheedly voice).
*I wasn't allowed to visit Horsham on the one time a trip was provided. I didn't even speak to a CH man on St Matthew's Day!
My knowledge of the CH man used to be....nil!
* Still a grudge. Huh!

Hmm, I think that
just about makes up for your momentary lapse... although perhaps just a leeeetle more grovelling...?
Or am I pushing my luck?

OK... cool professorial men may have emerged from behind those CH walls. Men with chest hair! Men who can carry off gold chains and retain a toupé in conditions of extreme heat, whilst exuding an absolute intellectualism. Men with enough compassion towards the natural world to tolerate the scornful squawks of a mynah bird! Man in a low-slung sports car who embraces the Middle Way compassion of Buddhist philosophy... man who can bring "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" to the East...
Ooh! Ooh!
There - is that enough now Philip? Are you mollified? Pwoof!
Back to the Revolution?

Seeing as it was a CH man who first broke my heart (at the tender age of 7) - Barry Proctor are you out there??? - and then there's my brother, who has single-handedly managed to alienate his whole family, I have to say I'm probably not qualified to comment, Angela!
However, having had a recent weekend reunion with the girls who started in 2s with me, I'd agree with your assessment. Although I'd also add that we all seem to have a high alcohol tolerance, too!! Or maybe it was just us? Six 40-something women, all pretending to be teenagers again - except that this time there was wine, a chocolate fountain and ... NO PREP!!!

Don't mention the mynah - it got so used to wandering around and trusting everything and everyone that it wound up being eaten by a dog...
Just thought I should put the record straight, lest anyone think any of this was serious....
15 years ago I was probably quite keen to be cool. Now I'd just like to be sexy... <sigh>
I drive a pick-up truck (a very swish one, mind you).
I have 11 hairs on my chest (again, very swish hairs). And no gold.
Toupés and motorbikes don't go very well together - a toupé either blows off in the wind, if you're daft enough to be riding without a helmet, or comes off with the helmet.
Professorial intellectualism? Hmm... let me think about that... maybe just a slight exaggeration there... only slight though...
"Swing Loooooooooow, Sweet Chaaarrriottt, etc." Normal service will be resumed in that area, with appropiate actions, assuming that England can actually play to their ability in the forthcoming, much anticipated (I told you it's a quiet life - besides, I'm a Spurs fan, so football isn't providing much entertainment at the moment...) Six Nations.
Thank you, Angela, ego satisfied - stand easy. It's after midnight, and I'm off to bed.
