Ah, I see!

The phrase "coming to dinner" usually implies slavish kitchen-type behaviour.

Which reminds me - friends coming round to watch the rugby this afternoon, so I'm going to make some pizzas.

One without any olives for a fussy ******, one vegetarian  , two with lots of chilli and one without chilli (for my Mrs.).

I COULD just go and buy some, I suppose, but I quite like taking myself off to the kitchen with some ingredients and a large drink.

I used to pity vegetarians - they don't seem to understand that all those lovely fluffy farm animals they enjoy are only there because people eat them. Then one of my kids became one for a year or two after one of those shock and horror TV programmes about chickens. Then I realised what veggies are REALLY like (selfish, demanding, unkind to normal people, et cetera) until one morning the smell of the bacon sandwich was too much and child renounced the sins and apologised and we all breathed a sigh of relief and went back to cooking one meal at a time instead of two!

Gated once for going out to protest against the suggestion that Monday night after prep we stayed in rather than strayed out and about!!!

I am amzed with what I got away with in 2 years without getting caught! Maybe it has something to do with my dad being a teacher and his angelic daughter could never do such things!

How in heaven's name do you know exactly how many punishments you got

I lost count of mine when at school so imagine you are making the whole thing up

I once got punished for cutting into my girdle a v-cut for every time I was beaten

So I was beaten in a way for celebrating being beaten!

How perverted is that?

I am guessing you were 2/3 years ahead of me at CH Hunteritus. The sad thing is I think I remember your story of the notches and another couple of boys getting the same treatment.

As for remembering the numbers, I kept a very well hidden diary at the school and after I left, I checked the figures after a master caught me one OB day and said "you owe us some punishments". Very glad to say they didn't hold me to it.

Lucky you

My diary was taken by my housemaster after he broke into my locker and yes there was the evidence that I did partake of a few well deserved snifters the Saturday before

He kindly read the evidence to me before administering the cane

Now that was just plain nasty of him.

It never ceased to amaze me how many ways the masters found to ensure you could get into situations that could only result in punishment. Even doing nothing was reason enough for a DT sometimes.
