Good grief!


That was a tiring day....

As you may or may not know, CH celebrates it's own Valentines Day - a chance for the school to express it's love and for the Grecians to make some money for a charity of choice.

The day starts with Snuggles - a hug from a Grecian of choice to the person of choice. These can happen at any time a Grecian is free - even during lessons.

At lunch, the roses and carnations are given out by the Monitors, to the accompaniment of a jazz band, with no marching to compensate. This year there were 200 flowers to be given out to seniors and juniors combined.

Then at tea, we handed out almost 400 Chocolate Crushes - a little chocolate nicely wrapped. That took b****y ges I can tell you...

We also have Love Lines posted in all the houses; a way of getting a love-lorn message to person of choice...

It's all very daft and very tiring...

I think AKAP and HPH might have been worried had I given them a "snuggle!"

Occurred to me that you might have thought I was taking the mick with my earlier message.

Just to explain it was boys only in my day and AKAP and HPH were my contemporaries and they both post on the forum.

As a further piece of useless information the IT man, Mike Harrod, was in Mid A with me and can be seen on the 1969 House photo.

Love Lines brings back the memories. They were going on back in Feb 90 and all the way though my time there. Used to take ours to unscramble some of the more cryptic ones.

Always a mix of flowers and chocolates and kissagrams going on as well

Yup that happened later on as well - The Love lines were hilarious... especially one's for Dr Stewart's mass debating classes....

There was also the school films that were run by a group of Deps... Before the 'Valentine's Film' one year, they had some of the love lines on the screen - these were called 'Cupid Stunts' - honestly!

We had nothing similar at Hertford, just Brownie pointsd with your mates according to how many cards you got from home.

My best was 3 when I was 15.

It was over 10 years before I found out one was from my Dad and one from ny best (female) friend. I never did find out who the third one was from.

It's all got a bit seedy I think...

Most of the messages attached to gifts/lovelines are OK, but some are downright nasty. This doesnt even take into account the fact that some of the nastiest are sent by the juniors, i.e. 12/13/14 yr-olds!!!!

Argggh.

Oh that was the fun. the bizzare messages were the best.

Perhaps seedy is not quite what I was looking for...

I meant that in the sense that when 2nd form girls wear absurdly short skirts to breakfast, WHEN IT IS 5 DEGREES outside, that's when you know something is wrong...

Funny you should say that. I am sitting here waiting for just such a fantasy to download. It has so far taken the best part of a full day.

MY children are big fans but many are not available in the UK. 48 of the past 72 hours the computer has been tied up downloading the (*&)(^)(& stuff.

I fear this thread is rapidly heading out of control.

If JR says that, then we should be worried!
