Marmite and other great debates

Post by Jolyon »

Right simple question, but feel free to add to the list other things that also polarise otherwise right thinking people.

My first entry on that list has to be The Turner Prise, and "Shed-Boat-Shed" in particular.

Winner of the best answer may win a lifetime supply of Marmite. Which in my view is one small jar obviously.

Oh, and All this was started from one random comment from Ruth like so many things.

Marmite has to be spread thickly, like an oil slick...

Marmite is grim grim grim and nothing you can say can change that.

So are Bovril and Vegemite and all other stinking spreads.

Marmite is delicious, good for you and irreplaceable. My Mum regularly brings in her luggage when she comes to visit.

If calories are not an issue : marmite & peanut butter sandwiches, otherwise on hot buttered toast - makes wonderful soldiers !

On the other hand, both my children loathe the stuff - apparently you have to love it before the age of 3, otherwise it's too late ... I did try, but not easy when their father said it looked like axle grease and tasted like ****.....

My wife likes this combo too.

She also suggests adding a slice of cheese to turn it into a real gastronomic treat.

Urrgh! I'd rather have wallpaper paste and Swarfega.....

And he's an OB.

'Shed-boat-shed' is an art installation that started as a shed, became a boat......and won this year's Turner prize

By the way Marmite goes very well with Philly and I am definitely with Euterpe on the soldiers thing.

Marmite on toast washed down with ginger beer is also very good for a hangover. Before you go to bed of course.

I LOVE Marmite. Cheese and marmite sandwiches are magic!

Another debating issue: Lager or bitter?

Bitter (real preferably) for me unless it is really, really, HOT when an ice cold lager can be palatable.
