One of the benefits is it enables you to pick holes in the tosh written by journalists.
From today's Indy - the education section no less. [my italics]
"The ageing Hollywood film star Michael Douglas is to join Prince William as an alumni of St Andrew's University......."
Two errors in one word, is this a record?(I asked in my email)

Yes, because it enables you to obtain employment in niche markets?
Yes, because it can enable you to decipher taxonomic nomenclature, which is not really useful, but can be amusing.
Yes, because it helps you to do cryptic crosswords.

Not those blue tablets... I think more than one of those can cause problems!

The front page of the Indy yesterday was taken up with "Old School Tie" stuff.
I went for a job when my husband was out of work and once I had been offered it (and accepted) I explained that he had been turned down after his last interview because "he went to a grammar school in South Yorkshire". When told the name of said school the interviewer looked at my surnameand asked if I was married to Alan or Barry. He had been at school with my husbband and his twin brother. (Barry actually)

I'm with Richard, as you can tell from my initial post.
However I suppose we can alter English as it is a living language whereas Latin is a 'dead' language and therefore unalterable.
