It starts at 3.00 p.m., and some of us will be in The Bax at lunchtime.

I assume some will go to The Bax afterwards.

I've not seen the retreat since I left in 1972.

Are Old Blues allowed to attend?

I'm sure I've read on here that they are not but maybe I'm mistaken

Not sure what the 'official' line is, but I'm sure no-one could object to you popping along.

According to one governor I spoke to at last year's Retreat, there was a bit of a problem some years back with hordes of p1ssed recent leavers descending upon the school and creating a bit of mayhem, so that may have been behind an attempt to restrict the event to members of the C.H. community and parents.

However, I've heard nothing about this recently.

No doubt the vast majority of visitors to the Bax later on will be underage, so a few OBs (as opposed to YOBs) might increase the average age a little!!

There doesn`t seem to be any way anyone can prevent OBs coming, (or anyone else!) although, as Richard says, if great masses turn up.........!

I don't think it has ever been a big deal.

But yes, they do try and stop Old Blues staying the night on the grounds!

From a different thread I got the impression that getting into CH is now on a par with getting into Fort Knox

Not QUITE asbad as it was a short while ago, perhaps, - at least on Saturday it should be ok as it`s end of term so parents will be coming to collect their offspring and gates/ barriers should be open.

It seems to me that the school want to have their cake and eat it, but you can't have it both ways. If we OBs are expected to keep coughing up for things and repay the 'debt', then we have some right to access the place at its more grand moments, don't we? I'm anticipating that the answer will be "at the designated times such as OBs day, not at the end of term for current students". A small Pigletty-type thought before I gear myself up for Question Time and Matt Pollard (any relation to Tom (Lamb during the 80s) and Martha (Ba B during the 80s)?).

We'll be there! Just about to start the journey in the next hour or so. Judith's term finished yesterday and though Oliver has gone off to school today and doesn't finish for another couple of weeks, we are .... er ...... extracting him for a few days on our way up this morning; Beating Retreat followed by Rome (49p flights courtesy of Ryanair) - his school is having a cultural enrichment week in which they do things like looking at the Cathedral and going on boat trips. I think Beating Retreat is far more enriching - let alone the Coliseum.
