Driving after operation

Next month I am due to have my varicose veins 'done'. At the pre-op I asked about driving and was told vaguely that I should not drive until I can do an emergency stop safely (It is right leg). Any advice whether I decide this for myself, should I talk to my insurance company - or will they ban me for a long time if I alert them?

They assessed me at a scan earlier as 'incompetent below the knee'. My dear husband queried whether they had tested above the neck - he discovered that I wasn't as incompetent below the knee as he thought!

Yes, talk to your insurance company. They will not stop you driving, but will say that you should not drive if you feel you are unsafe. If you don't tell them, drive, and have an accident, you will not be covered even if the accident has absolutely nothing to do with your op.

I discovered this becasue we used to tell women they weren't covered to drive for 6 weeks after a C Section. One woman queried this with her insurer and that was the answer she was given.
