Friday I had to go to the town hall for a talk about the disposal of sh*t and the liquid variety. I kid you not - Brussels has brought in new regulations saying that everyone in Europe must be connected to the local sewage system but France has decided that people like me have to build our own (I'm 2 km out of the village of 120 souls (half of whom are kids))

After that I went to the local 'Allo, 'Allo and had a few beers (which is standard for a Friday night).
Had to do it alone - SWMBO got adumped upon a few days ago by 50+Kg of out of control local (or should I say "loco") Ikea equipment and has gone back to the UK for a checkup.

Yes - I had noticed a fall off in posts; is it the holidays or disinterest or because I haven't been posting sufficiently offensive remarks recently?

It's warm outside (37 degrees = 99 F - why can't the French work in round figures?) but inside it's cool enough that I have to wear a shirt. On TV it's some Frenchman chasing penguins through the snow as the music plays! I don't know which I prefer :D

Finks - I'll go for a swim - it's 88 F in the pool so that should be nice, especially combined with a nice cool bottle of Domaine de la Soujeole 2003 (a pornographic thought if I ever had one) :P :P

just trying to get you jealous. Any takers? :drinkers:

Bovver, Bovver and bovver again.

How am I going to imrove my total of posts - two posts an hour or so apart and it says my total has not increased. Just my luck to stay a deputy - any connection to Deputy Dawg?

Don't worry, David, it's simply the malice of inanimate objects. 2 days ago I was shopping in M&S and 3 packets of sausages hurled themselves at me- I was at least a yard away at the time

We could restart a common thread on that - what do you miss when you are abroad?
We even have an "English Food Shop" - (with a paperback book trading post) - run by a French woman whilst the ;local supermarket has a s,mall UK section with baked beans, tacos, pot noodles and I think, Marmite.

We don't have English style sausages so could you please check if M & S have trained their bangers to get this far? Toulouse sausages are not my favourite
(there is a retired UK butcher who apparently makes a batch every few weeks)

When we were in Islamabad, the local BA Agent got a Christmas hamper from BA, each Agent could choose what he wanted. Our friend chose Walls Pork Sausages and Heinz Baked Beans. We had a fantastic Boxing Day treasure hunt ending up at his house for bangers and mash. Grown men were fighting over the last bangers!!!

The other thing we eally missed was cheese, the only ones available were buffalo milk cheddar in the tinned and untinned varieties - I am talking about thirty years ago, might be different now.

Actually, it's more what I miss when I visit the UK - the plethora of fresh fruit & veg at affordable prices, public transport at public prices , and a decent bottle of plonk that won't cost me a week's wages....
