When we go to Tomintoul we will be with son and fairly new dil for the children's Halloween party. Apparently Jeremy has told Juliet I am a very good story teller, and she has asked me to tell the children some Halloween tales. The step grandchildren came with the dil!

Now I am completely out of practice for this age group (up to 11) and never did Halloween. Has anyone any titles of books I could look in, or websites where I could find something. As relationships haven't always been easy with them I want to get this right.

If I am to retain my sanity, I'd appreciate it if you could treat this as a serious request for help.

Why not give them the legend of Sleepy Hollow. There are a couple of DVDs they could then rent/buy to follow up

The main thing is atmosphere - candlelight and a log fire. Dress up like a witch and ham out the story with reference to the children present. Get them to participate by chanting "ooh-ooh-ooh" and "aah-aah-aah" at suitable moments on a given signal. When they get the hang of helping like this, interrupt the flow with a piercing haglike cackle or scream while they are in mid chant.

The story line itself is of lesser importance.

Go down to your local library and look at the Roald Dahl books - very 11yr old, and some stories are fairly creepy

Or you could tell them stories of their father, call it pay back for setting you up!

I don't think that stores of Dad will work this time, I could be treading on eggshells while I am there anyway, they have to meet Mum's approval!
