I've just been reading the press release for the forthcoming production of The Magic Flute at C.H. -
http://www.chassociation.org/news/archi ... elease.doc
It mentions that the actress and comedian Josie Lawrence is an Old Blue. Does anyone know if this is true? It's certainly news to me.

I've got the old card index boxes with the details of all girls who left Hertford between about 1920 and 1985 and Josie Lawrence is not in there (unless under another surname).
It's the first I have heard that she's an Old Blue - and I imagine that if she is it would be Hertford Old Blue as she must be older than 39? (People who left the Upper VI in 1985 must have been born around 1967 - the youngest Old Blue to have been at Hertford would have been born around 1974 and thus now would be 32).
Interestingly enough the list of Old Blue Actors is by no means complete - there are loads of others. Jason Flemyng, Tenniel Evans, and at least one Hertford Old Blue (whose name escapes me for the moment!). Perhaps its meant to be a list of Old Blue Actors who work currently with the school?

Wendy Lawrence does ring a bell with me and the age would be correct too.

Did you get the opportunity for acting and theatre at Hertford?

Josie or Wendy Lawrence?

There's no Wendy Lawrence, either, in the card index. But maybe she didn't stay on after the Upper Fifth (O levels). In my time we did not do A level General Studies, or O/A Level Drama - both of which she attained. So maybe she left after O levels and did two more years somewhere else?
But you would have thought that other Hertford Old Blues in their mid forties would recognise her....? I'm ten years too old to have any recollection myself!

If it is the same person I would be surprised because the Wendy I remember was quite short, even in her year group and Josie Lawrence is tall. The Wendy I remember was a bit of a monkey, but she was 5 years younger than me however if I remember correctly she was from the Black Country. Perhaps she is the same one. A pity there are no 2's younger than me on here.

It came to me in the night, the Wendy I remember was from Oxford, so not the same one.

I haven't checked to see if she has a web-site, but I'm sure if she does and one of you girls send her a message, she'll get back to you.
Josie is very tall, if that helps. I saw her at Dorking Halls a few years ago along with Sandy Tosvig (sp?) and others.

I suspect that whoever put together that notice for The Magic Flute realised that Josie Lawrence's original forename was 'Wendy' and discovered that there had been a 'Wendy Lawrence' at Hertford - put two and two together and made six.
If Josie Lawrence herself IS working with the Drama department, that would be fantastic!

That's it, Maggie!
It was on the tip of my tongue all along....
All I could think of was that Jean Hayes often seems to talk about her. but the name escaped me.
Thank you for refreshing my memory.
