New £20 note

Post by Katharine »

Have any of you seen this yet? I had one in today, and took it round all our outlets to show them. The general consensus of opinion on the design was 'Ugh!' and also that it looked very continental and 'not British!'.

What I haven't been able to find anywhere is whether it weighs the same as the old ones. Not a worry to most people, but it concerns me. The latest fivers do not weigh the same as their predecessors and that cost us £700 for new scales. Hope they haven't made the same mistake again!

Reminded me most of the colourful notes from Dominican Republic.

I have been to the Natwest and they are the same weight

The Natwest where I regularly bank up to £12k in the season could not answer my question. They tried to persuade me to invest in a note counter instead, but I don't want that.

They just tossed one on the scales and said their scales had not been recalibrated, and they don't have note counter. I was behind someone one day who wanted his cash counted and was quite stroppy when they said they couldn't do it.

WQhat's the problem? Back in the days when we counted everything twice by hand I used to get the local dairy banking £10K per day every day at my till. Certainly not more than 20 minutes whatever combinations of notes, silver and copper.

A note counter for £12K? - they should pull the other one.

I honestly cant believe people dont know who Adam Smith is.

I got a new £20 note out of the cash machine when I was drunk the other day, had a long conversation with the bartender in the pub as to whether it was legit...

I have never done economics anywhere and I had heard of him.

I suppose it is like watching University Challenge, if you live long enough you can answer most of the questions.
