What happened to ...

RR's Word of the Day? I did enjoy it.
My word for the day is CONGRATULATIONS - to me!! I sat a Parents' Learning Literacy exam a few weeks ago, and I last night was told that I have passed (pass or fail only, pass mark was 85%, so feel quite chuffed). I now have the equivalent of a grade C at GCSE in Literacy. Tomorrow we have our final session where we perform plays wot we rote for the children, in puppet theatres made from boxes. Five minutes of complete chaos and mayhem. My company is Standing Room Only Productions (or STROP for short ...) and we will be performing 'A Tight Squeeze' (or 'How The Cat Got His Whiskers') in The Box Theatre in Tavistock Library. Well if you're going to do it, you might as well do it properly!! The word for tomorrow might be 'shambles'.

Sorry, it fell by the wayside. Now I'm no longer self-employed it's a bit more difficult to do regular stuff like that.

Thanks, GP. It was a Parents' Learning course in Literacy, to help you support your children's learning. I initially thought it was a course for starting pre-schoolers with reading and writing, but it turned out to be a more general literacy course (grammar, spelling, comprehension etc), and I think it was designed for those who hadn't gone too far with formal education or lacked confidence in their own abilities. But, it was very enjoyable to get out on my own for a couple of hours a week with adult company and we got to make a theatre and puppets, and write a play too, so very productive all in all. Plus, I learned how to use colons and semicolons properly, which I wasn't really sure of before. And it was free!

Or topostopees, as our elder daughter called them when she was five. We certainly did learn about them. It caused much confusion with names that end in 's' and plurals. And I now can't remember the rule! Also the difference between 'these' and 'those'. All I could think about was JED and one prep he set which was learning to decline 'hic, haec, hoc'. I wanted to decline to decline, but wasn't allowed.
