Tubular Bells !!!

I was out and about Sunday, but No 2. Son-in-Law picked up my copy of 'The Mail on Sunday'. He'd heard me talking about Mike Oldfield and wanted to make sure I didn't miss my free copy of the 'Tubular Bells' CD, which is the full studio version. I have the album on tape, but it's pretty well worn and hasn't got the reproduction of the CD.
ANYWAY...................
Jan is out and about galavanting, and the patio doors are open wide and Mike Oldfield is giving it large, even for the benefit of any neighbours who are at home.
I'd forgotton just how absolutely brilliant this album is. Just the opening chords bring back so many memories, The days of 'The Exorcist' film. Eldest daughter still in nappies at the time.
I just wondered what other music buffs on here thought ?
This probably has to rank in the top five best albums ever recorded.
Well done, Mike !!

My husband has the original boxed set on vinyl. He extracted the CD before he even got home so I haven't heard it and cannot comment.
We were at university in central Brum right across the road from the very first Virgin store. I bought a t-shirt from there and was wearing it in Manchester (where there was no store) and two lads walking by commented "bet she's not".

I think Tubular Bells 2 is better. It was the first CD I ever owned...still got it in fact. JR - if you like Mike then you should try Songs of Distant Earth as well. My top five albums of all time would be:
1. Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon (never ever get bored of it)
2. Goldfrapp: Felt Mountain
3. Boards of Canada: Music Has The Right To Children
4. Spritualized: Ladies & Gentelemen We Are Floating In Space
5. Nick Drake: Five Leaves Left

I certainly agree with your No 1. choice Marty.
I have the remastered CD. Nothing like having the house to yourself. A few pints of Stella, or some shorts, or........
(Hmmmmm !) Then headphones on, and
'Darkside......'
Certainly 'relaxes' the brain !
Enigma 1 and 2 are very similar !

Tubular Bells reminds me of when the school theater was very new, the sound system was up and running but various other things were still being commissioned. For some reason Tubular Bells was played for hours on end!
