A bit of fun for any latin Geeks out there (coming out of the Never-Ending F.H. Competition):

Christe liberator hostisque
cum domino spiritorum septem,

Verses 1-3 in progress...

Who's a clever boy, then. Are you going to compose a new tune too? I couldn't make the words fit the old one.

That is what worries me: I did 2 years so-called latin (eeeucccch) plus 3 latin based languages so I can read quite a lot into it but is it what you actually mean?

line 3 some strange mezozoic beastie like dinosaurus
line 4 officially approved facts - has tpo be suspicious
line 5 colei - an old spelling/plural for a particularly nasty bug? no thanks
line 6 - sorry - I have already had enough problems with my septum

You say that verses 1 - 3 are in progress what was that then?

The tune? with a title like that it has to be opera (or is it the dirge of the east end licenced carmen?

I think I failed to survive one term under B.S. Gregory in Prep school !

Latin's all Greek to me !

My Latin is terrible (as no doubt JED would support) and currently I can only run to ecclesiastical or medical Latin, in particular hyperemesis gravidarum (although it's a bastardisation of Greek and Latin, but classical none the less!).

Very good!

But presumably the tune would have to be called something like medius urbs?

Five years of Queenie's tuition, and all I could come up with is:

Give thanks for/to something or other
Animatedly offer up ignorance
Be official in holy somethingorother

And Christ liberate hostility
With master of the seven spirits
Father, Son and Holy Ghost

I have a feeling that something is not quite right , as it doesn't scan, parse or make any sense. Also, what tune is it set to?

Please, someone, put me out of my misery.

Does "que" as a suffix mean "and", Caroline? I seem to remember Queenie (in the little scarlet flatties) saying so -

In which case I make an attempt at

"Christ our Saviour and our Host"

Note I remember something taught me linked with the shoes worn at the time....

I therefore identify this piece as the last verse of the Foundation Hymn! "Brothers, best with righteous living - " Oh no, it's set me off -

I have always wanted to know what was the difference between the 'Carmen' (Hertford) and the 'Votum' (Horsham) when they were one and the same thing... 'Unum concentum tollite.......'

Except for one verse....Ours began "Artes palaestrae floreant....", but I'm sure the lads had something about manly pursuits (and I'm sure JR could make something of that)
