If this is true it confirms my suspicion that they really are stupid:

They are just talking about it on Radio 4, and have confirmed it as true. They had expected him to be there till April but ....

I think it's great that he was there, and also that it's terrible (and inevitable) that the news was leaked. I've also enjoyed all the interviews with him I've seen on tv (in Thailand) in the last 12 hours. I also liked the comment that it would 'take 24 hours to get him out of Afghanistan' - hell's teeth, it would take more than that to get me out of Thailand!
Oh, and 'Sir Jock Stirrup' ??? Classic. Rule Britannia.

I too think its fantastic what i found funny was the way the news kept empahsising that he was sometimes 500yards from the taliban (where else would he be if he was fighitng them!)

SHAME on whoever leaked the news. They clearly cared more about breaking a story than the safety and security of all the allied soldiers in Afghanistan.
I feel genuinely sorry for Prince Harry. I saw that interview where he said it was about as normal a life as he was ever going to lead, and now it's been ruined by the stupid press. I hope this won't stop him being posted somewhere else in the future.
I think he has made mighty wonderful turnaround from the several embarrassments of a few years ago to putting his life on the line for his country and we should be grateful to him - as to any other soldier - for going to a war zone and doing his best for our country.

Jon Snow (newsreader not OB cricketer) said it was a disgrace that the British media had kept it a secret and has brought down the wrath of many people on his head. Some likened him to Lord Haw-Haw.
However I then read that BBC News, ITN and SkyNews were in Helmand with HRH and as Jon Snow works for Channel 4 I think there was a touch of sour grapes there (which doesn't excuse him)

Scanned the tabloid headlines when out today, and any loyalty or discretion these journalists may have felt must have gone.
How many Taliban HRH had done for, etc, etc.
And then announcing that he was now no 1 target for asassination!
Stupid stupid media - it's wicked, it's irresponsible.
OK, I am ranting away, but I'll stop now.

the media are to blame for a lot of things-the way the glorify or sensationalise stories and things causes the all sorts of trouble. As proven today with headlines of Harry being no 1 assaination target etc. Hasnt he always been a target being a royal-and surely publcising it wont help

How many people are regularly annoyed with the content of their usual / preferred media intake?
How many actually take any action to express their opinion through letters / emails / switching to alternative sources? The first is a regular occurrence for me, the second merely a 'rarely gotten round to' aspiration.

I've tried but with one exception the media totally ignore complaints. In the exceptional case (our local paper in respect of an inaccurate article) a senior police officer (well, he had pips on his shoulder) came round to "put me straight". Barstewards

Immediately, I have an image of the "senior police officer" staggering away from the encounter, having attempted to "put you straight" David. Confused, bemused, shoulder pips askew; bitterly regretting having drawn the short straw... agonisedly attempting to record his authoritarian disaster in triplicate.... for ever after, having the p6ss taken at Officers' Policy Meetings!
Respectfully

if those who got annyoed with the media stopped watching, reading, buying it then they may take note when they realise audience figures have gone down. There are a number of newspapers i will now no longer buy because of their content and the way the write things. One is the the daily express, 10years on from the death of diana and she it still nearly always on the front page or in the paper somewhere (even before the ongoing inquest).
Also certain news programmes wont watch because of the way they report. If we all did this and stuck to it they should notice their figures drop and then maybe stake note

No, Angela. I don't get physically violent (well, not since I put my fist through a locker door at housie and couldn't get it out again) though SWMBO and I do enjoy a good verbal ding-dong and normally win.
In this case the barsteward's visit was neither expected nor justified so I was 6000 miles away on business. It was my wife (5 foot and tiny) who got the wrong end of his wrath. He has not (dared?) approached me since and it was a month or so afterwards that my wife told me what had happened. Apparently he didn't even give his name rank or number.
If he had had more sense than a one legged sea cucumber he would have phoned in a civil manner to ask which of his own officers had given me the information I had given to the press. In fact his station's actions actually led to the police not being able to properly investigate a subsequent theft
