Any road engineers out there?

Can anyone explain Gwynedd County Council's love affair with kerb stones? I have to drive 6 miles into work along an A road that is single carriage way, single lane each direction. Over the last few winters we have had a succession of road works as they instal kerbstones at the edge of the grass verge. The grass does NOT encroach onto the road. I thought they had finished for this winter but there was yet another set of mobile traffic lights this morning.

Call me a cynic if you like.

However the financial year end of local authorities is 31 March each year and if there are budget surpluses they tend to spend them so that the following year's budget is not cut or threatened with being cut as a result of the underspend.

There are always a lot of seemingly needless roadworks in March and it happens in other areas of local government finance too.

I have dealings with a firm of chartered building surveyors and there is always a mad panic to get local authority work certified before 31 March.

You would, JR!

Andy, I tend to agree with you, but this winter we have had it going on all winter then a two week gap before this latest lot - presumably it takes them that long to do their sums (I didn't teach them!)
