House Singing Competition?

Is it still going on?
Was a great thing when I was at CH - the Hunt B part song was always a winner! Sadly in our final year we were turfed from our winnings (unfairly we all say) but it was a great way to get the entire house doing everything as one.
So who are the leader's these days current CH'ers? Think the balance of musicality has probably shifted in the past 4 years ....shame....

I remember having taken part in singing "You can go but be back soon" (from "Oliver!) and "I like to be in America" (from "West Side Story" - not many boys could resist "amending" the line "Knobs on the doors" in rehearsals, as one might imagine...)
Otherwise, no songs stick in the memory. What songs do others particularly remember having sung in the competition?

I never sang in this comp myself (that would've been sabotage), but I remember that Vaughan Williams' setting of "Through Bushes and through Briars" (was that its name?) was a perennial, and "The Lincolnshire Poacher" turned up quite often.
I suppose it's all Bridge Over Troubled Water these days.

I remember "My Grandfather's clock, tick b**** tock, His life's seconds numbering,...etc, etc"
As I was in the group, we lost.

Ah yes, the old favourite, "My grandfather's c*** was too large for his jock....."
Hertford used to have house singing competitions but I don't remember 5s ever winning it. Perhaps we did. In DR's time it was a choice of two songs, plus a psalm, but after Miss Tucker arrived she dropped the psalm and gave us a free choice of second song. I remember being very peeved one year when the judge told us off for slowing down in the song "Zingari Bridal Day", sung to one of Brahms' Hungarian Dances, but when you listen to it being played orchestrally, it does slow down at that point.
I also remember starting on "By the rivers of Babylon" my first year, but the competition was cancelled because of a flu epidemic. Another year I remember "In those happy days of long ago, when the music played and lights were low, in brocade and lace....... etc", sung to Boccherini's Minuet. Other years were obviously completely unmemorable because the choral delights escape me completely.

Jo I started a thread in Hertford Memories,
viewtopic.php?f=34&t=999 on the Hertford competition a long time ago. In my time it was one song, and no choice either, every house sang the same (except possibly the Junior Houses - can't remember what happened about them - Kerren might she was in one I wasn't).

I must have skimmed that when I joined the forum - tried to catch up with the backlog of everything that was already there, but don't remember much in detail. I enjoyed Alex's memories..... where is Alex these days, anyway?? I hope she's ok.

Junior houses had a different song, sung in unison, as I recall. I can't remember 3s ever winning the senior comp.

This list is more depressing than I could possibly have imagined. The only list that Yesterday ought to be in is "The Worst Songs of the Century", which would include most of the others too.
