Just heard on the Radio 4 News that Rob was killed in a mountaineering accident in the Alps. There was no more detail except sufficient to identify him as "our" Rob.

Both are OBs. I suppose the only relief from all this is that Rob's life in particular was not wasted. Our thoughts go out to all

How awful. It's humbling how much he had managed to pack into his young life.

Such tragic news. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this very painful time. Robs' achievements, to date, far exceeded his years, a legacy which few could emulate.

can anyone confirm this - that the 2nd person was james atkinson, not james gauntlett.

It might also be worth praying for Rev Ian Coulson as he starts work as chaplain tomorrow at CH in this midst of this tragedy.

I should have said in my opening post that I was thinking of the families of both, I think I was in a bit of a state of shock hearing it, even though I had never met Rob. My thoughts and prayers will be with the new chaplain tomorrow too.
