Fives seems to be a longstanding tradition of a compulsory sport for uncoordinated people like me who aren't good at whatever the main teamsport is for the relevant time of year. I was just wondering what everyone's opinions are of this weird and pretty rare sport, and whether anyone who played it at CH has ever played it since leaving; or just anyone's general experiences of fives and whether they have a +ve or -ve view of it.

i would stil play if there was anywhere to play it!
even tho i did break my thumb playin it...

What the **** was the point of fives? Pointless and dull are two words that automatically spring to mind.

Too true. They just take it way too seriously, and give you evils if you say anything bad about it.

Never could get o with fives - but i could see why it was a good way of stress relief...

Crikey - never thought fives could possibly illicit such an aggressive response!
Never played it myself, but I guess if fives is pointless, then the same applies to all racket sports??!??

Didn't say it (involve a racket). Just that if you criticise fives, then squash is the next logical victim, followed by............

Logic is something that is pretty far removed from Fives.

Hey! I used to play fives and I can assure you all that it was a most enjoyable past-time! Once, I even managed to slam the ball into Hammer's chest when we were having a pupil vs staff game.

Playing against Mr Keely was always the best though. He liked to play craftey little drop shots - a trick that I quickly picked up! Having him run accross the court, yelling MINE in his distinctive voice was always a giggle.

I broke my opponent's nose with a fives ball within 5 minutes of my first ever fives match for the school. I won the match because he conceded!

And that makes you feel HOW, exactly?

Well I remember Fives being the nuts. Only sport I was ever very good at, so it kept me in good stead.

If i remember correctly, you didn't hang around long enough to walk any further than the fives courts!

Fives was a non-mainstream sport for non-mainstream people!
