I see that one of our GREATEST actors, SIR David Jason is in trouble for telling the 'Mahtma Coat' joke on national radio. (I'm quite happy to reproduce it here for anyone who hasn't heard it.)
He has been forced to issue a grovelling apology.
What the hell is this country coming too ???????????
Would the last person to leave GB please make sure the lights are turned out !

I haven't heard it, although I heard he had apologised for a comment he made on the radio. Is it going to offend anyone on this forum if you tell me what it was he said?

Nobody complained when he said it on the radio. It's not offensive, just a play on words, well to my mind anyway, and as JR knows I don't do offensive.

Well, if nobody complained when he said it on the radio, why did he have to apologise? And who was he apologising to? I've no doubt that I say dozens of things every day that could be deemed to be offensive to somebody somewhere!

The whole thing is stupid.
Why does he ave to apologise if the BBC can print it?

Ok, I've just read it. Now can somebody explain what is offensive about it? It's a lot of fuss about nothing! AGAIN!!!!!

The thing I find most upsetting is that David Jason was reported to have been very distressed that he had offended people. He hasn't offended anyone,

except the obnoxious faceless pc brigade.

I think originally there was some merit in political correctness in that it helped remove blatantly offensive terms like the "n word" from general parlance.
However is has now gone too far. The white "liberal" elite has hi jacked pc and uses it to stifle any form of dissent from it's totalitarian and oppressive agenda.
Sir David Jason is yet another innocent victim alongside Carol Thatcher and others.

Very true and it seems to be white- and occasionally black - but always British people who are accused in this way; by this white liberal elite. Hope I am not sounding racist, I am not racist AT ALL.

Does anyone remember the late and very great Spike Milligoon in 'Curry & Chips' ?

and I suppose (almost) everyone of us should complain in the strongest terms about all the blatantly caucasian jokes told here and elsewhere.
Whilst I'm about it we should complain about all the references to GB (the man not the place) as being parliamentarianist and comments made about bankers (OK so I know the word) as being self-satisfying.
Sorry, JR - I can't be bothered to switch off the light - Gordon Brown can pay the bill out of his grossly inflated income

What very sad little lives these people must lead. I once had the pleasure of being told by a Nigerian (after being teased unmercifully by him and his (fair-haired) colleague) "I thought I had problems, but at least I'm only black, not like you, a Welsh Jewish Catholic". Why do some people spend their time looking for trouble?

Oh Dear ! JR Surely (Don't call me Shirley !) you realise that the lights are already OFF !
Only the "Jokes" Topic and the "Pedant's Revolt" Topic (Soon to close -- due to offence being given to the Ignorant ?)
will remain, for we, the blatantly conservative (With a snall c) and Traditionalist (With a Capital T !).
When I ws at CH my World Atlas was mostly coloured RED --- and I think the World was a better place --- although at War, the Principles which had led us there --- were immutable and sound. ------ so there ! :deadhorse:

Yes Neill - all the red bits were British and the sun never set on the British Empire, but only because God didn't trust the British in the dark!
