Bristol / Accommodation plea

Bit of a long shot this but thought I'd ask just in case.

My dad was diagnosed with cancer in November and has been having various treatments and operations over the past few months. My parents live near Yeovil but the two nearest hospitals that can treat my dad are in Bristol (Southmead and Frenchay). Dad's been in hopsital for a couple of weeks now and mum has been going to visit him practically every day but not before doing a full day's work. The journey is 2 hours each way so suffice to say she is wearing herself down and is totally knackered. We do try and get friends to visit dad on some days and I am going down this Sunday to give her a break but there's only so much people can do.

My reason for creating this thread is to ask if anyone out there knows of somewhere my mum could stay in Bristol occasionally, preferably no more than a half hour drive from the city centre. Visiting my dad is costing a small fortune in petrol so it would be good if it was v cheap or free! If I can find somewhere for her to stay it will prevent her driving for 4 hours in one go and having an accident or running herself completely into the ground.
